Audrey looked out.
Among the "pedestrians" in the dark, bizarre city, besides werewolves, there were bears walking upright, languid-looking cats, strange people with colorful spiders for faces, giant rats with bloodshot eyes, pythons flicking their tongues, and some sort of canine creatures surveying every passerby with eyes full of the desire to mate...
They wore top hats and trench coats or elaborate, intricate dark dresses, striving to imitate humans in every detail, yet unable to make themselves truly resemble humans.
Animalistic desire...
Audrey silently repeated the term.
In psychology, it referred to savage, crude, almost bestial desires, nearly all of which could be classified as negative emotions.
The carriage traveled beneath the dim night sky, weaving between these "pedestrians" and all manner of Gothic buildings, and soon arrived at a church in the very center of the city.
The church stood more than eighty meters tall, supported by massive pure-white and golden pillars. It exuded a holy, luminous air that brought to mind the Cathedral of Light in the real world.
After the carriage approached the church, Audrey felt the surrounding world grow distinctly brighter, bringing pleasure to both body and mind.
Each massive pillar of the church was embedded with a certain number of skulls. These skulls appeared somewhat illusory; some came from humans, others from various creatures, but all directed their hollow eyes downward, as though watching every living being that entered the church. Unlike this church, most buildings here were composed of elements tending toward nightmares, suspense, horror, and mystery, whereas this church was bright and sacred.
The carriage stopped. Audrey stepped down, passed through the main entrance, and saw a magnificent, empty hall.
Deep within the hall stood a huge Latin Cross.
Unlike ordinary churches, there were no rows of seats for believers to pray
