Jia Lie Jun tossed the keys in his hand as he approached the bluestone platform. Turning to Xiao Yi Xian, who was gathering herbs, he called, "Hurry over here. I'm going to open these three stone boxes, so you won't accuse me of keeping everything for myself."
"At least you have a bit of conscience." Xiao Yi Xian gave a soft snort, wrinkling her delicate nose. She then set down her work and jogged over to the stone platform.
Jia Lie Jun shook the keys in his hand, making them clatter. He selected one and tried it. With a crisp click that rang unusually clearly through the silent stone chamber, the lock opened. He drew his longsword and pried open the stone box. Inside lay an ancient, multicolored scroll. Xiao Yi Xian froze for a moment before happily taking out the scroll.
Curious, Jia Lie Jun leaned closer and asked, "What is this?"
Xiao Yi Xian opened the scroll and held it before Jia Lie Jun. Four small words were written on the colorful scroll: Seven-Colored Poison Scripture.
"Since you like this Seven-Colored Poison Scripture so much, I won't take what someone else loves. This poison scripture is yours. There aren't many kind people like me left." Jia Lie Jun spoke with considerable self-satisfaction. Xiao Yi Xian curled her lips, plainly unconvinced.
Jia Lie Jun opened the second stone box and took out the black scroll within. After examining it carefully, he found a line of small writing on its side: Xuan-rank High-Level Flight Fighting Skill—Eagle's Wings. He immediately declared shamelessly, "This flight fighting skill is mine." Without waiting for Xiao Yi Xian to agree, he tucked it into his Storage Ring.
Xiao Yi Xian rolled her eyes at Jia Lie Jun, her face full of disdain. Jia Lie Jun was not embarrassed in the slightest and was about to open the third stone box when footsteps echoed from the cave entrance. Both of them started and turned toward the entrance. As the footsteps drew closer, a figure slowly appeared—it was the Young Commander of the Wolf Fang Mercenary Group.
"Mu Li? How could it be you?" Xiao Yi Xian looked utterly shocked. She had clearly slipped sleeping medicine into dinner; they should have been unconscious by now.
"What, are you surprised to see me here? I already coaxed this matter out of your assistant, Li Fei. And since you're a poison master, how could I possibly have come unprepared?" Mu Li looked at the two with a beaming smile, yet that smile sent chills down their spines.
When Jia Lie Jun saw that it was Mu Li, he relaxed. Then, as though no one else were present, he opened the third stone box and examined the scroll inside. His face filled with disappointment. It was merely a Xuan-rank High-Level fighting skill, Raging Lion's Roar. The people around him stared in stunned disbelief, secretly thinking, Has this guy been scared stupid? He actually dares to ignore the Young Commander.
Mu Li's anger flared at the sight. With a sweep of his hand, the mercenaries behind him charged to surround and attack the pair. The sounds of bodies hitting the ground rang out continuously. The mercenaries clutched their blood-gushing throats with both hands, their eyes wide open, dying with grievances unresolved. A thick stench of blood filled the air.
Mu Li stared at Jia Lie Jun in terror, as though looking at a monster. Holding his longsword, he slowly backed away with extreme caution, trembling as he said, "Don't come any closer! My father is Mu She, commander of the Wolf Head Mercenary Group. If you kill me, the Wolf Head Mercenary Group will hunt you without end!"
Jia Lie Jun smiled as he slowly walked toward Mu Li. His footsteps echoed through the stone chamber. Each step made Mu Li's heart jolt violently, terrifying him out of his wits. In the end, Mu Li could no longer bear the fear in his heart. He broke down with a shout and thrust his sword at Jia Lie Jun. Suddenly, Mu Li felt a sharp pain in his chest. He looked down and saw a hand piercing through his chest, then slowly collapsed backward.
After dealing with Mu Li, Jia Lie Jun looked toward Xiao Yi Xian. She stared blankly at him, her face full of fear, as he slowly walked toward her. Seeing him approach, Xiao Yi Xian crouched down with her hands over her head and cried out, "Don't kill me! I won't tell anyone!"
Jia Lie Jun suddenly shouted. Xiao Yi Xian let out a piercing scream that carried far into the distance. After a while, when nothing else happened, she slowly opened her eyes. Jia Lie Jun was standing at the cave entrance with his arms folded across his chest, struggling not to laugh. Xiao Yi Xian instantly realized what had happened. She rushed before him and repeatedly pounded his chest with her soft little fists, cursing, "You stinking bastard! How dare you scare me like that!"
After hitting him for a while, Xiao Yi Xian gradually stopped. Leaning against Jia Lie Jun, she began to sob silently. Jia Lie Jun lowered his head and saw tears in her eyes, her face full of grievance. She looked so pitiful that he could not help reaching out to wipe away the tears at the corners of her eyes.
Xiao Yi Xian stood there in a daze, letting Jia Lie Jun wipe away her tears. Looking into his eyes, which were filled with tenderness, she became lost in them. Then she punched him lightly in the chest, her pretty face flushed crimson, and ran outside. Jia Lie Jun hurried after her.
At the cave entrance, Xiao Yi Xian stood silently at the edge of the cliff with her back to Jia Lie Jun. Cool moonlight fell over her body, and a gentle breeze sent her long hair fluttering in the wind. She resembled a fairy beneath the moon, and Jia Lie Jun was momentarily spellbound.
"Ahem." Jia Lie Jun coughed softly.
Xiao Yi Xian gave a light snort, sounding somewhat spoiled.
"Beautiful and kind-hearted Xiao Yi Xian, please be magnanimous and forgive me." Jia Lie Jun stepped in front of her with a flattering look. Xiao Yi Xian merely turned away, refusing even to look at him. No matter how Jia Lie Jun tried to placate her or smile ingratiatingly, she kept her back to him and said nothing.
"Since you don't want to talk to me, then stay here. I'm leaving first."
"How dare you!" Xiao Yi Xian immediately turned around, her willow brows raised in anger.
"So now you're willing to talk to me." Jia Lie Jun smiled.
Xiao Yi Xian rolled her eyes at him, raised her chin like a proud white swan, and said, "Let's go."
"Yes, honored guest." His comical manner instantly broke her composure, and Xiao Yi Xian burst into laughter.
Jia Lie Jun wrapped an arm around Xiao Yi Xian's waist and lifted her up. Feeling the softness of her slender waist as her faint fragrance drifted into his nose, his heart stirred. Jia Lie Jun controlled his longsword and slowly rose into the air. Xiao Yi Xian lifted her head and looked at Jia Lie Jun's chiseled jaw, handsome face, and bright, spirited eyes. When Jia Lie Jun lowered his head, their gazes met. They both immediately looked away, while an ambiguous atmosphere steadily spread between them.
At the cliff's edge, the two stood with their backs to each other. Xiao Yi Xian lightly kicked at the small stones on the ground. In the end, Jia Lie Jun broke the silence. "Are you planning to return to the Myriad Medicine Pavilion's herb-gathering team now?"
"Ah, yes. Aren't you going back to Qingshan Town with the Myriad Medicine Pavilion's group?" Xiao Yi Xian turned around and answered somewhat flusteredly, a faint blush on her face.
"Yes. I'm planning to enter the Monster Beast Mountain Range to train. By the way, if you return to Qingyang Town, will the Wolf Head Mercenary Group cause you trouble?" Jia Lie Jun asked with a concerned expression, voicing the worry in his heart.
"They won't. Given my reputation in Qingyang Town, the Wolf Head Mercenary Group probably won't dare to trouble me rashly. Besides, while my Myriad Medicine Pavilion can't compare with the Wolf Head Mercenary Group, we still have some strength." Seeing Jia Lie Jun's concern, Xiao Yi Xian felt a faint sweetness in her heart.
"Then we'll part here. If you run into trouble, I'll definitely come help you, no matter where you are." Jia Lie Jun waved his hand, and his figure gradually disappeared into the darkness.
"Jia Lie Jun, I'm very happy to have met you." Xiao Yi Xian remained where she was and spoke softly. A sweet smile bloomed on her face, making even the moon lose its color.
