With a point of Yun Ying's delicate finger, the carp formed from runes leaped into the river, then swam upstream toward the gateway.
Soon, the carp reached the gateway, but when it tried to enter, it met tremendous resistance.
It was as though some unknown force barred anything from entering the gate of light. Yun Ying gazed at the gateway, the light in her pupils growing ever more intense, like two great suns slowly rising.
Dimly, Yun Ying seemed to see strands of brilliant, crystalline thread wound around the gateway, like a web woven from spider silk, covering its entrance.
It was a powerful force of rules, but powerful as it was, it was not entirely impossible to overcome.
The carp kept leaping toward the gate of light, the runes within its body shining. Yun Ying felt everything it did. She closed her eyes and sent a sliver of her consciousness into it.
One breath... two breaths... three breaths...
Three breaths passed quietly, an exceedingly brief span, yet to Yun Ying, it felt as though a very, very long time had passed.
At last, she opened her eyes. At the same time, the carp formed from runes blazed with light, strands of runes spilling out and beginning to intertwine.
Every scale on the carp began to transform into a dragon scale. Gradually, its body swelled to half a person's height, and it began to roar like a dragon.
"What was that sound? Why did it sound like a dragon's cry?"
Though the dragon's roar was still immature, it rang out with extraordinary clarity, instantly drawing everyone's attention.
They looked over and only then noticed Yun Ying. They also saw what was happening outside the gateway: a crystalline carp was bursting with dazzling light, its scales transforming into dragon scales.
The sight left many of them dumbstruck. "A carp transforming into a dragon?!"
Even Mo Shang, the Sea God's successor, looked over in astonishment. A carp transforming into a dragon was an ancient legend, but more precisely, it was a carp leaping through the Dragon Gate. Only after clearing the Dragon Gate could a carp become a dragon.
Roar!
A clear dragon's cry rang out, deafeningly loud. Dragon scales now covered the carp's entire body, and even its head had begun to become a dragon's head, its whiskers streaming.
"This... am I dreaming? A fish turning into a dragon?"
Some thought their eyes were playing tricks on them and hurriedly rubbed them hard, trying to confirm whether they were dreaming. Otherwise, how could they be witnessing such a miraculous sight?
Everyone stared fixedly, unwilling to blink, hoping to discern something from it. If they could gain even a little insight, it might prove an immense opportunity.
Unfortunately, the carp had only developed a full body of dragon scales and a dragon's head. It had not completely transformed into a dragon-it could not even be called a flood dragon, only a fish dragon.
Even a fish dragon, however, left everyone astonished. A carp becoming a dragon was a legend to begin with. Witnessing it with their own eyes would have been far too incredible.
After transforming into a fish dragon, the carp radiated dazzling light and let out a roar, its dragon's cry shaking the heavens. Then it leaped sharply into the gate of light, breaking through the mysterious force barring its way.
"It got in!"
Everyone cried out in disbelief. It had actually charged inside without bursting apart.
The fish dragon quickly swam to the piece of kun wood, opened its great mouth, and clamped its jaws around it. Then it sprang up, turned around, and swiftly swam out along the river.
"It came out! And it brought that piece of kun wood with it!"
At once, everyone grew restless, their eyes red as they stared fixedly at the kun wood in the fish dragon's mouth.
"Damn, that actually worked? Isn't this fat girl a little too strong?"
Bear Child's jaw nearly hit the ground. He had never imagined Yun Ying would actually retrieve that piece of kun wood, much less through such an unexpected method.
"The kun wood is mine!"
The next moment, everyone surged forward, striking out to seize the kun wood.
"Get lost! Only I, Mo Shang, am worthy of possessing the kun wood!"
Even Mo Shang, the Sea God Descendant, was no exception. Golden light blazed from his entire body as he brought the trident in his hand cleaving down, slaughtering people and wreaking havoc on all sides.
Yet while they fought, the fish dragon reached Yun Ying, set the kun wood from its mouth before her, then dissolved into runes and vanished.
"What? That fish dragon was formed from that girl's runes!"
Many who witnessed this stared with eyes wide in shock, as though they had seen a ghost.
They had thought the fish dragon was a real living creature. After all, it had evolved from a carp right before everyone's eyes, leading them to mistake it for a living being. Yet it was nothing of the sort.
"Unbelievable! She formed a creature from runes, yet made it evolve and transform like a living being. Where did this girl come from? Her mastery of runes is practically divine!"
An expert of the older generation was appalled. The higher their cultivation, the more clearly they could sense how terrifying Yun Ying was.
Countless people under heaven knew the phrase "a carp transforms into a dragon," but exceedingly few could apply it to runes and give tangible form to that process of evolution and transformation.
This was not something imagination alone could achieve. It involved countless profound mysteries and contained the secrets of the Great Dao, a domain ordinary people could never touch.
Yet Yun Ying had accomplished precisely that. Such talent was terrifying in the extreme.
"Hand over the kun wood!"
With a great shout, Mo Shang, the Sea God Descendant, charged over with his trident and cleaved straight down at Yun Ying, showing not the slightest tenderness toward a beautiful girl.
Faced with the Sea God Descendant's attack, Yun Ying remained expressionless. The Purple Bamboo Sword slipped silently into her hand, its purple edge rising from below to block the trident.
Clang!
Dazzling sparks sprayed out, scorching black marks into the ground. Others fell into the river with a sizzling hiss.
Terrifying fluctuations of divine power erupted in their wake. Runes surged in every direction like a tsunami, and many people who stood too close were crushed directly into dust, powerless to resist.
Hiss!
Many sucked in a breath of cold air and hurriedly retreated farther away. The fluctuations unleashed by a single clash between the two were already so terrifying. It was horrifying.
Golden waves swept in every direction. The Sea God Descendant stood like a golden deity, his divine might shaking the heavens and making all the gathered heroes pale.
"The fat girl isn't going to lose, is she?"
Bear Child's heart tightened. Just as Yun Ying had said, he had only recently entered the Spirit Transformation Realm and could not yet contend with a young powerhouse like Mo Shang, who had reached its pinnacle.
Still, as long as he had time to bring his cultivation up to par, he was confident he could sweep through every foe in the Spirit Transformation Realm.
Just then, a streak of sword energy shot upward, tearing through the void. A terrifying cutting edge flared and slammed into the golden trident, sending Mo Shang flying outright.
The sudden reversal caught everyone off guard. They had never imagined that Mo Shang, who could be considered invincible here, would actually be driven back-and by a young girl at that.
