Chapter: Flying Snow Over the Mines
The terrain of the Southeast Mining District was dominated by low hills and plains, and almost every raised hill concealed a mining tunnel that was either currently being worked or had long since been depleted.
Tonight, the stars were sparse under a clear moon, and the entire mining district appeared exceptionally deep and shadowy in the hazy moonlight.
Unlike other fertile mining districts, this mining area did not operate at night, seemingly gasping for its final breaths as it lingered on to delay the eventual exhaustion of its lifespan.
Only a handful of mining tunnels had on-duty personnel and lit soul guidance lamps, while the vast majority of the other tunnels remained pitch black.
Among the numerous low hills, there was a peak that was visibly taller and broader in footprint than the rest. Although it was the middle of the night, its surface emitted a faint, shimmering silver-white under the illumination of the moonlight.
Beneath this peak lay the largest silver mine in the Southeast Mining District: the White Jade Silver Mine.
Originally, this was just an ordinary silver mine, but just a few days ago, rumors had spread that miners had unearthed mithril from within, though the vast majority of people had merely laughed it off upon hearing it.
At this moment, floating in the air more than a hundred meters above the White Jade Silver Mine, several figures hovered in midair.
Positioned in the middle of the group was a somewhat hunchbacked old man. Not only was his attire plain, but his frail appearance made him look like a stumbling ordinary senior.
Yet the others did not dare harbor the slightest thought of treating him with disrespect. They all deferred to him as their leader, waiting respectfully for him to speak.
