Chapter 485: The Impending Beast Tide
The bloodstains on the remains of the two Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts had long since dried, and they were laid out before Di Tian just like that.
One was a yellow-and-purple feline Soul Beast, its corpse relatively intact save for the massive hollow that occupied its chest cavity.
The skeleton of the other was essentially all that remained, though it could be faintly recognized as a giant lizard. Its once-indestructible scale armor had been stripped away, its eyes gouged out, and two hollow sockets stared wretchedly at Di Tian.
The two Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts that should have ruled supreme in their own territories now possessed none of the majesty proper to kings of the forest, looking no different from leftovers scavenged by carrion.
The raging fire in Di Tian's heart grew increasingly intense. He reached out with his right hand to gently stroke the giant lizard's skull, able to clearly feel the aura of the Dragon Clan bloodline lingering on its remains. This sense of kinship from the same bloodline filled him with an even greater grief and indignation.
Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts rarely killed one another, and certainly never stripped their opponents of their skin and bones. Moreover, even if it had been done by other Soul Beasts, the two most important things would have been left behind: the Soul Ring and Soul Bone.
Soul Beasts could not absorb Soul Rings and Soul Bones, so the floating Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Ring would slowly drift away and dissipate on its own over time. Yet judging by the fresh condition of these two remains, it was far from the time for the Soul Rings to vanish on their own, and the Soul Bones were nowhere to be found.
Numerous possibilities pointed to the single likely culprit: humans.
"Ah-!"
