The gate stood open.
Dressed in white robes, Dongguan strode inside.
Before him stood the enemy he had once known only through intelligence reports, the enemy he had always treated as a milestone to work toward: King Huozhen.
"Dongguan, this is our first meeting. I am King Huozhen." King Huozhen's tone was gentle, showing none of the bearing of an enemy.
"King Huozhen of the Universe Mercenary Alliance. I know. What did you want with me?" Dongguan asked, looking straight into his eyes.
"You may be an exceptional genius, but you are still only a World Lord. You should learn humility before the strong." King Huozhen narrowed his eyes slightly, his tone almost that of a patient teacher.
"You needn't concern yourself with that. You are an eternal Immortal, while I am a World Lord with a limited lifespan. I need to cultivate. I only agreed to meet you out of respect for your seniority as a King Rank. If there's nothing else, I'll leave. There's no need to waste time." Dongguan curled his lip slightly, taking a jab at him and displaying a measure of "arrogance."
"Eternal Immortal" referred both to an Immortal's eternal lifespan and to remaining "eternally" an Immortal, forever unable to become a Venerable.
Neither mentioned their supposed enmity, but both suspected the other knew and were probing.
But what if? What if that was not the case?
Dongguan was only eighty percent certain that King Huozhen knew his identity.
King Huozhen, meanwhile, could not be completely certain that Dongguan possessed the Wood and Grass Divine Cauldron. He merely suspected that Dongguan might have been the one who had tracked down King Mieye.
What a troublesome opponent. He even has a clone. King Huozhen inwardly felt the trouble.
