Background / History

Wei Lingjiang was born with extraordinary natural gifts. Wei Wanhua taught her cultivation when her parents were occupied. Her father, Wei Yin, later lost a struggle for leadership of the Siye Wei Clan and was killed by Wei Shao, who seized the position of clan leader 221 224.

Wei Shao intended to kill Wei Lingjiang as well. Wei Wanhua intervened and secretly took her to the Shangyu Ai Clan for protection, sacrificing her own standing within the Wei Clan. After hearing of Wei Lingjiang’s gifts, True Lord Zhuojing personally left seclusion to bring her to Lutai Mountain, finally deterring Wei Shao from pursuing her 221 224.

Within the Vermilion Luminescence Sect, Wei Lingjiang spent much of her time cultivating in a grotto-heaven and seldom descended the mountain, even for festivals. She maintained correspondence with Wei Wanhua, though her letters became less frequent as she concentrated on forming a first-grade Golden Core 64 224.

Appearance

Wei Lingjiang is described as exceptionally beautiful, with a serene, lofty elegance and an aloof, immortal-like bearing 60 78.

Personality

Wei Lingjiang is proud and ambitious. Facing heavenly demons, she refuses to accept that she must fall short of True Person Jun Yao or fail the Three Calamities. Her determination later extends to pursuing a first-grade core and competing for the position of Dao Scion 60 108.

Her outward reserve often conceals embarrassment, affection, or uncertainty. She initially explains her concern for Chen Heng as a desire to recover the favor he owes her, while privately struggling to understand her feelings. After Zhu Wanzhi criticizes her coldness, she directly asks Chen Heng whether she is difficult to approach 69 78.

Once she acknowledges her feelings, she becomes unusually forthright. Despite Chen Heng’s rejection, she insists that neither of them needs to obstruct the other’s Dao and declares that she will not regret caring for him. She also takes concrete risks on his behalf, giving him a rare protective talisman and planning to spend her accumulated merits to secure his admission to her sect 76 93 97.

Her relationship with Qingzhi brings out a more playful and exasperated side: she trades barbs with the Azure Bird, pinches her cheeks, and punishes her matchmaking jokes 64 65 108.

Heavenly Demon Encounter

Wei Lingjiang meets Chen Heng while fighting through a heavenly demon horde. Refusing Qingzhi’s suggestion to abandon her Spirit Body, she places her hopes in Chen Heng’s unusual cultivation. She teaches him the Scattering Radiance and Concealing Form Art while defending their group, and he pulls her away from a Strength Aberrant Demon’s attack 60 61.

Their immediate danger ends with the arrival of a Cavern Mystery Refiner, and they travel onward to Floating Jade Lake 62 64.

Floating Jade Lake Conspiracy

Wei Lingjiang searches for the Evil Hatred Yin Victory Demon as part of a task tied to repaying the Ai Clan and obtaining an opportunity to survive the Three Calamities. Meanwhile, Cave Lord Huaiwu’s supposedly beneficial Crane Embryo Pills prove to be tools for demonic transformation 69 73 75 97.

She persuades Chen Heng to act as bait, supplies the Golden Light Divine Talisman, and plans to expose Huaiwu through the Ten-Thousand-Li Illumination Talisman and the Jade Dawn School. Sima Lingzhen ultimately kills both Huaiwu and the demon, settling her debt to the Ai Clan 76 108.

Confession and Separation

After Chen Heng returns injured from Huaiwu Cave, Wei Lingjiang openly declares her feelings. He initially rejects romance as a danger to his pursuit of immortality, but later admits that he cares about her. She asks him to wait until she understands her own feelings, and they agree to watch the Si Encounter Festival lanterns together 92 93 97.

Her plans to bring him into the Vermilion Luminescence Sect collide with the Dao Scion contest. Zhuojing warns that support from True Lord Zhou, a practitioner of the Supreme Unfeeling Dao, may depend on Wei Lingjiang not being delayed by romance. Wei Shao’s acquisition of the Wind-Fire Meditation Cushion adds urgency to her family conflict 108.

Zhuojing orders her Spirit Body back to the sect and instructs Qingzhi to conceal Chen Heng’s parentage from her. Following Qingzhi’s final visit, Chen Heng casts away the Jiansu Flower branch and resolves to relinquish his attachment 110.

First-Grade Core and Return from Seclusion

Wei Lingjiang undergoes a second core formation through Chonghua Feather Victory, attaining a first-grade core and mastering Correct Heaven’s Division. The achievement draws congratulations from the sect’s elders and the Dao Lord of Emptiness-Piercing Supreme Virtue 419.

On emerging, she urgently asks after Chen Heng, believing Zhuojing had promised to bring him into Crimson Luminary if he excelled under Elder Lü. Before Qingzhi can explain, Zhuojing interrupts. The Dao Lord then approves Wei Lingjiang’s earlier request on behalf of the other two Patriarchs; the request’s contents are not disclosed in the supplied passage.
