Wong Bing Yiu narrowed his eyes as he looked at his nephew, his face full of an approving smile.
"If your aunt finds out I didn't come to pick you up today, I'm afraid I won't get a hot meal for the next week!"
His Elder Nephew had been clever and quick-witted since childhood, and as he grew up, he had never once disappointed the elders in the family.
At just twenty-two years old, he had already officially entered the inspectorate ranks of the Police Force.
And at graduation, he had also received the Shirley Shield and the Commissioner's Commendation for Academic Excellence.
On top of his education and ability, his future was bright indeed. He might well become a pillar of the family in the Police Force.
As much as Wong Bing Yiu admired him, he felt even more concern for him.
His Elder Nephew had outshone those elites who had risen through the lower ranks of the Police Force, ultimately claiming every honor in this Inspector Class.
It was easy to imagine how much effort he had put in during that time.
Zhou Quan's original self had been dearly loved by the family elders from a young age. After both his parents died in the line of duty, their pity for him had only grown.
Although Wong Bing Yiu was not related to Zhou Quan by blood, he truly had cherished his Elder Nephew dearly.
"Now that you've graduated from the Police Academy, why not move in with us?"
Looking at Zhou Quan with hopeful eyes, Wong Bing Yiu said slowly, "Your aunt told me today that I absolutely had to bring you home."
The deep affection his aunt and Uncle by Marriage had for him filled Zhou Quan with warmth.
Although Zhou Quan's own consciousness was in control now, he had inherited everything from the original self, including his family and their affection.
He was genuinely tempted to move in with his aunt and uncle.
But after thinking it over, he ultimately decided to decline the invitation.
It wasn't that Zhou Quan wanted to keep Wong Bing Yiu at a distance. He had grown up in the homes of his uncle, Lee Man-bun, and his uncle by marriage, Wong Bing Yiu.
According to the original self's memories, he owned a thousand-square-foot apartment in Central.
But ever since his parents had died in the line of duty, he had not set foot inside it even once.
Before going overseas to study at the foreigners' stronghold, he had lived alternately with Lee Man-bun and Wong Bing Yiu, depending on which school he attended.
So Zhou Quan had no qualms whatsoever about moving in with Wong Bing Yiu.
His main reason for planning to turn down Wong Bing Yiu's invitation was the post he was about to take up.
"Uncle by Marriage, barring any surprises, for the next three months I'll probably be leaving early and coming home late as a matter of course."
With one hand on the steering wheel, Zhou Quan considered this for a moment, then said with a smile, "If I move back home, it'll not only make Aunt worry, but it'll also disrupt your daily routine as a couple.
Let's wait until I'm fully settled before I come home!"
As was customary in the Police Force, after graduating from the Police Academy, police officers had to serve for at least a year in their assigned Police District before being sent to the Police Tactical Unit for further training.
That training lasted about three months.
To rise to the upper ranks of the Police Force, they also needed experience managing the Mobile Unit.
Whether it was directly commanding operations or taking part in administrative work behind the scenes,
the Mobile Unit was, in short, an essential step on the path to the upper ranks of the Police Force.
The Police Tactical Unit, abbreviated to PTU and commonly known as the Blue Berets, was a paramilitary riot police force.
Its main responsibilities included conducting anti-crime patrols, managing crowds at major events, maintaining internal security, search and rescue, and disaster support.
Zhou Quan had entered the Police Force directly at inspector rank.
So the three-month training with the Mobile Unit was the post he needed to take up after graduating from the Police Academy.
Wong Bing Yiu was personally taking him to the West Kowloon District, which clearly meant he had assigned Zhou Quan to the Mobile Unit under the West Kowloon District.
After the three months of training, they would arrange his post separately.
"That makes sense. The Blue Berets have to patrol every day, and even after they've clocked off, they have to be ready to respond whenever something happens."
After listening quietly to Zhou Quan's reasons, Wong Bing Yiu thought it over and agreed.
"Living in the Police Station dormitory will be much more convenient, too."
At that, Wong Bing Yiu's expression turned bitter. He put on a helpless look and gave a self-deprecating laugh.
"The trouble is, I'll be the one suffering. Since I didn't bring you home, your aunt might just swallow me whole."
Hearing that, Zhou Quan couldn't help chuckling.
He knew how deep the affection between his aunt and Uncle by Marriage was. His Uncle by Marriage was only joking; there was no way his aunt would actually make things difficult for him.
Noticing his Elder Nephew's gaze, Wong Bing Yiu dropped his feigned bitter smile and replaced it with a smug grin.
Though Wong Bing Yiu was a little portly now, in his youth he had been one of the best-looking men in the Police Force.
Otherwise, no matter how capable he was, he could never have made the Lee Family's second daughter fall so completely for him.
As the uncle and nephew chatted and laughed, the old Toyota drove up to the entrance of the West Kowloon Region Police Headquarters.
After parking, Zhou Quan followed his uncle into the police headquarters.
Before stepping inside, Zhou Quan looked up at the Royal Police Badge above the entrance.
In a few years, I'll take this damn thing down with my own hands!
He pursed his lips and sneered inwardly.
After steadying himself, Zhou Quan continued following his uncle inside.
Along the way, police officers repeatedly stopped and stood at attention to salute Wong Bing Yiu.
This wasn't the Yau Tsim District that Wong Bing Yiu oversaw, but as one of the few Senior Superintendents in the West Kowloon District,
his authority was self-evident.
Aside from the foreign Assistant Commissioner in charge of the West Kowloon District, which police officer wouldn't greet him with a smile?
With his hands clasped behind his back, Wong Bing Yiu strode proudly through the police headquarters building with Zhou Quan, then entered a somewhat shorter office building within the West Kowloon Region.
Before they entered the building, Zhou Quan spotted the bilingual lettering embossed beside the lobby: Police Tactical Unit B Company.
Zhou Quan understood. This was where he would be on duty for the next three months.
There was no denying that Inspector Wong's influence was considerable.
He took Zhou Quan straight through without a hitch, all the way to the office on the top floor of the Mobile Unit's headquarters.
"Albert, this is my Elder Nephew. He's here to get some experience with you!"
Wong Bing Yiu made no attempt at formality or distance. As he introduced Zhou Quan, he strolled over to the guest tea table and sat down.
