Jiang Chenglong stared at the scene before him, then turned to the young man in shock.
When he realized the person standing before him was actually Jiang Tian, he was so astonished that he could barely speak.
"You... you..."
One move!
This kid had defeated that late-stage internal force martial artist from Fusang with just one move?
What kind of incredible power was that?
During his fight with Saburo Kageyama, he had clearly felt his opponent's strength. The man's cultivation was definitely above his own.
Yet this young man had subdued him with a single move?
Could he be an expert?
"What about me?"
Seeing Jiang Chenglong's dumbfounded expression, Jiang Tian glanced back at him.
Jiang Chenglong came to his senses and shook his head repeatedly. "Nothing. Th-thank you for your help, young sir!"
Jiang Tian shook his head slightly. "It was nothing. Besides, he was a spy."
Jiang Chenglong managed a smile and asked, "May I ask your name, young sir? I'm Jiang Chenglong, leader of Team Seven at the Special Security Bureau!"
"Jiang Tian."
Jiang Tian answered flatly.
He wasn't particularly interested in Jiang Chenglong's position.
"Mr. Jiang!"
Jiang Chenglong cupped his fist again, then looked at Saburo Kageyama. "Then he..."
"He's not dead, just unconscious. I know they're useful to you."
Jiang Tian shook his head.
Jiang Chenglong breathed a sigh of relief, then smiled. "Mr. Jiang, you're truly a young hero. I never imagined someone your age could possess such cultivation! May I ask who your master is?"
Jiang Tian glanced at him and shook his head. "You wouldn't know even if I told you."
Jiang Chenglong froze, then gave an awkward chuckle. "Haha, no need to tell me, then. Still, you really did me a huge favor today, Mr. Jiang. Saburo Kageyama has been hiding in our country for years, stealing our military secrets. If he'd actually taken that intelligence back to Fusang, we'd have been in serious trouble."
Jiang Tian nodded. When it came to his country's interests, he certainly wouldn't take them lightly.
"All right, my mood for enjoying the moon is ruined anyway. If there's nothing else, I'll be going."
Jiang Tian waved and headed home.
Seeing this, Jiang Chenglong hurriedly called out, "Mr. Jiang, leave me your contact details so I can properly thank you!"
Without looking back, Jiang Tian said, "No need."
With that, he disappeared into the night.
Watching the direction Jiang Tian had left in, Jiang Chenglong murmured to himself, "What an extraordinary young man. If we could recruit him into the Special Security Bureau, he'd be a tremendous asset!"
Then he waved someone over. "Go investigate this Jiang Tian. We can't let talent like his go to waste!"
"Yes, Team Leader Jiang. But what about your injury?"
The Special Security Bureau member glanced at his still-bleeding wound with concern.
"Don't worry. I'm fine."
Jiang Chenglong waved him off, then ordered the others to tie up Saburo Kageyama, ready to take him back to headquarters.
Meanwhile, Jiang Tian had already bought his toiletries and was heading home.
The moment he entered the house, he saw his mother standing on a stool, covering a drafty section of wall with a tarpaulin while Jiang Wan'er helped beside her.
At the sight, Jiang Tian quickly dropped his things and rushed over.
"Mom, that's dangerous! Let me do it!"
As he spoke, he took the tarpaulin from Wu Xiuli and began securing it.
Seeing her son, Wu Xiuli smiled. "Tian, you're back? Why were you out so long?"
While securing the tarpaulin, Jiang Tian replied, "I passed the park where I used to play as a kid, so I went in to have a look."
Wu Xiuli nodded. "It's been ten years, and the place has fallen into neglect. All the old neighbors who were going to move away have moved by now, too."
Jiang Tian paused and asked, "Then, Mom, why didn't you move?"
"Silly boy, if we moved, what would you do if you came back and couldn't find your home?"
Wu Xiuli said with a smile.
Hearing those words, Jiang Tian felt as though something deep in his heart had been touched.
Sure enough, only the people closest to you would always leave a light burning to guide you home!
Forcing down the ache in his heart, he said, "Mom, Wan'er, don't worry. I'll give you a better life!"
Wu Xiuli smiled gently. "Your dad and I aren't asking to be rich. Hurry up. The forecast says there's a high-wind warning tonight, so we should get ready beforehand. Once the weather clears, I'll ask your dad to repair the house."
Looking at the badly weathered wall, Jiang Tian nodded. He felt it was time he earned some money. After all, in this materialistic society, it was impossible to get anywhere without it.
After sealing the gaps in the wall and chatting a little more with his mother and sister, Jiang Tian spread some bedding over the small living room sofa and lay down.
Now that his parents were back, he couldn't sleep in the bedroom anymore.
When they were children, his sister had been small enough for them to squeeze in together. But Wan'er was grown up now and needed a room of her own.
"Jiang Tian, it'll be really cold tonight. Remember to use a thick blanket."
Perhaps worried that her brother would be cold out there, Jiang Wan'er poked her little head out of her room again to remind him.
Jiang Tian smiled slightly. "I will. Get some rest yourself."
"Okay. Good night!"
Jiang Wan'er waved to him.
Jiang Tian nodded with a smile. "Good night."
Watching the door close again, Jiang Tian settled under his covers. He had wanted to cultivate, but the spiritual energy here was so thin that cultivating would make no difference, so he gave up on the idea.
How can I get some money quickly?
Lying on the floor, Jiang Tian gazed at the ceiling, which had also gone years without repairs, and pondered.
His parents were getting older, and his sister was an adult now. Having all four of them crammed into this little courtyard home couldn't go on. He had to find a way to earn enough money to buy a house.
Actually, making money wasn't difficult for him.
He was proficient in medicine, formations, the mystic arts of Qimen Dunjia, and more. Any of those abilities would make him a formidable figure in the outside world. But modern society was complicated. Even with genuine skills, he might not find anyone willing to believe him.
"Forget it. I'll go out and have a look tomorrow, then figure it out."
Jiang Tian slowly closed his eyes.
Early the next morning, as dawn was just breaking, Jiang Tian got up and went out to buy breakfast.
By the time he returned, his parents and sister were up too.
"Mom, Dad, why are you up so early? Why not sleep a little longer?"
Jiang Tian set breakfast on the table and asked.
As he got dressed, Jiang Chenglin smiled. "We're getting old. We can't sleep in anymore. We wake up automatically when it's time."
Jiang Tian nodded. In truth, he knew his parents were under too much pressure. Otherwise, who wouldn't enjoy sleeping in?
It seemed he really needed to hurry up and earn some money.
"Wan'er, I bought breakfast. Once you've eaten, hurry off to school. Don't be late."
Jiang Tian turned to his sister.
Jiang Wan'er skipped over to the table and looked at the breakfast before her. "Thanks!"
Jiang Tian ruffled her hair, then unpacked breakfast, and the family sat around the table to eat.
After breakfast, Jiang Wan'er shouldered her schoolbag and left for school. Although evening study sessions had been canceled, morning study sessions hadn't. She had to arrive before six thirty.
Watching his sister leave, Jiang Tian sighed, then stood as well. "Mom, Dad, I'm heading out too. I might not be back for lunch."
Wu Xiuli asked, "Where are you going?"
Jiang Tian smiled faintly. "To earn money. Lots of money, so I can buy you a nice new house!"
Hearing that their son was going to look for work, Wu Xiuli and Jiang Chenglin didn't stop him. They simply cautioned him, "Son, you've been away for ten years. There are lots of scammers out there now. Be careful not to get cheated by a shady employment agency..."
But before they could finish, a sudden knock came from outside the courtyard.
Knock, knock, knock! "Is this Jiang Tian's home? Open up! We're from the South City Police Bureau!"
