"Soul-Pinning Curse?"
Ning Hongzhuang was startled. Why had she never heard of this illness?
"The Soul-Pinning Curse is also called the Nail-Head Seven Arrows Book!"
"Have you seen Investiture of the Gods? This was the very technique that killed Zhao Gongming! It's an extremely vicious curse. The caster uses spells and talismans to imprison the victim's soul, then performs rituals and chants incantations three times a day for a month. After that, they shoot it with an arrow, and the cursed person's soul is utterly destroyed!"
Jiang Tian explained.
Strangely enough, this curse had disappeared long ago. Only certain evil cultivators from the Primordial Era knew it, so how had it appeared in the mortal world?
"What? You mean my grandfather isn't sick? Someone put a curse on him?"
Only then did Ning Hongzhuang finally understand, her pretty face paling in shock.
She was a staunch materialist who had never believed in ghosts or gods. Jiang Tian's explanation left her utterly shaken!
"Nonsense! Utter lies! What curse? This is all absurd! I think you're nothing but a con artist!"
Just as Ning Hongzhuang was weighing the truth of Jiang Tian's words, Ning Weiye snapped.
"Exactly! Do you think you're writing a novel? You're making it sound so mystical!"
Tang Caiqin chimed in, though there was something odd about her expression.
Jiang Tian ignored them and looked at Ning Hongzhuang. "Believe me or not. Everything I've said is true."
Ning Hongzhuang collected herself and asked coldly, "How can you prove it?"
After all, this sounded far too fantastical. She could hardly accept it on his word alone.
"Fine. For the sake of that five million, I'll let you see the truth!"
Jiang Tian smiled faintly, then raised his hand and traced a talisman in midair.
"Break!"
Jiang Tian gave a low shout.
A golden phantom talisman slammed into Ning Rulong's body with a muffled thud.
Immediately afterward, a cloud of black vapor drifted out of him.
The black vapor seemed to have a mind of its own. The instant it emerged, it drifted toward the exit. Jiang Tian reached out and clenched his hand in midair, pinning the cloud in place!
"This black vapor is the curse lurking inside your grandfather!"
Jiang Tian gestured toward it with his chin.
Ning Hongzhuang stared at the scene before her, her expression filled with fear.
Could all of that be true?
Ning Weiye and Tang Caiqin were also deeply shaken by the unbelievable sight.
"Although this curse has been inside your grandfather for almost a month, fortunately, the caster isn't very skilled at it. That's why your grandfather is still safe for now."
As Jiang Tian spoke, he waved his hand and dispersed the black vapor.
"Then how can we wake my grandfather?"
Ning Hongzhuang asked hurriedly.
Jiang Tian glanced up at the ceiling and smiled faintly. "We just need to find the straw doll. That's the source."
With that, he bent his knees and leaped three or four meters straight up, finding a small doll made of straw on a ceiling beam. It was wrapped in a black talisman, with three specially made copper nails driven into it!
Below him, Ning Hongzhuang and the others were once again left dumbfounded when they saw Jiang Tian leap several meters into the air.
What terrifying jumping power!
"Found it!"
While they were still reeling in shock, Jiang Tian landed with the straw doll in hand.
"Look. This is the source of the curse."
Jiang Tian held the straw doll out to Ning Hongzhuang.
Ning Hongzhuang did not dare take it. She merely stared at the little straw doll and asked, "You mean my grandfather ended up like this because of that straw doll?"
"That's right. This is only one of them. There's another, which should be in the caster's hands."
Jiang Tian nodded, then swept his hand over the straw doll.
Buzz!
The next moment, a puff of white smoke rose from the straw doll.
Whoosh!
The instant flames flared over the straw doll, Ning Rulong stirred on the sickbed.
Suddenly, Ning Rulong's lips moved, and then he let out a breath with a puff.
Then he slowly opened his eyes.
"Grandpa!"
"Father!"
Seeing Ning Rulong awaken, Ning Hongzhuang and Ning Weiye called out to him, stunned and delighted.
He was awake!
He had really woken up?
"Mr. Ning, how are you feeling?"
Jiang Tian turned to Ning Rulong and asked.
Ning Rulong looked around at everyone, then let out a long breath and said:
"I'm not dead yet. Young man, were you the one who saved me?"
Although Ning Rulong had been unconscious, he had still been aware of what was happening around him. He had heard their conversation clearly and knew that the young man before him had saved him.
"That's right. It was me."
Jiang Tian nodded.
"Who would have thought that an illness so many renowned doctors and specialists were helpless against would be cured by a young man?"
Ning Rulong looked at Jiang Tian with admiration.
"I took the payment, so I dealt with the trouble. That's all."
Jiang Tian shrugged, looking utterly unfazed by the praise.
Seeing his attitude, Ning Rulong's gaze grew even more approving. This young man was interesting!
"By the way, young man, did you just say someone put a curse on me?"
Something suddenly occurred to Ning Rulong, and he asked.
"Yes. You were afflicted with the Soul-Pinning Curse, which damaged your soul. That's what made you irritable, quick-tempered, and listless every day."
Jiang Tian nodded.
"The Soul-Pinning Curse..."
Ning Rulong grew thoughtful.
"Who would use such a vicious method against my grandfather?"
Ning Hongzhuang asked.
"That's something you should ask yourselves. Anyone who knows his birth date and exact birth time is probably someone close to him, isn't that right?"
Jiang Tian gave a faint, knowing smile.
"You're saying someone close to my grandfather harmed him?"
Ning Hongzhuang's expression changed sharply. The next instant, her gaze went straight to Tang Caiqin!
Tang Caiqin's face was tense, and she looked deeply uneasy. When Ning Hongzhuang suddenly looked at her, she exclaimed, "Why are you looking at me? You don't think it was me, do you?"
Ning Hongzhuang said coldly, "You know perfectly well whether you're behind this!"
Seeing that Ning Hongzhuang had decided she was the culprit, Tang Caiqin immediately grew agitated. "Ning Hongzhuang, what's that supposed to mean? It's one thing if you don't like me, but you can't slander me! I've been married into the Ning Family for seven or eight years. When have I ever done anything to betray this family?"
"But you-you've acted as if you had a grudge against me since you were little! I spend all day walking on eggshells around your family. What's the point of living like this? I might as well die!"
As she spoke, she covered her face and began to cry.
Ning Weiye also felt that Ning Hongzhuang had gone too far and could not help saying, "Hongzhuang, how can you suspect your... Aunt Tang? Don't I know what kind of person she is? Apologize at once."
Ning Hongzhuang did not even spare him a glance. Instead, she said to Ning Rulong, "Grandpa, don't worry. I'll get to the bottom of this!"
Ning Rulong nodded. "Good. But you need to be careful too. Anyone bold enough to target even me has no shortage of nerve. If pushed too far, they might lash out in desperation."
