What Good Is Being Handsome

A few minutes later, Jiang Tian arrived at the location Zhang Miao had sent. Stopping a few hundred meters from the destination, Jiang Tian found a quiet alley to land in and then walked the rest of the way.

As soon as he reached the entrance, Jiang Tian saw a familiar figure standing by the door of a restaurant, looking around anxiously.

That person was none other than Zhang Miao!

Catching sight of Jiang Tian, he was startled for a moment, but recovering quickly, he waved and walked over. "Brother Tian, how did you get here so fast!"

Jiang Tian smiled slightly. "I was just nearby, not far away."

Zhang Miao did not care whether it was true or false, stepping forward to punch Jiang Tian on the shoulder with a laugh. "Brother Tian, we haven't seen each other in so long. Tonight we have to drink until we drop!"

"Alright, let's go inside to talk."

Jiang Tian smiled and nodded, then spoke.

"No rush. Go on in. The first private room on the second floor corner is it. I'm waiting for one more person."

Zhang Miao said with a smile.

"Not just the two of us? There's someone else?"

Jiang Tian was taken aback upon hearing this; he had thought it was just a small get-together for the two of them.

"Uh, it's my girlfriend. She insisted on tagging along, so I couldn't do anything about it..."

Zhang Miao said with a hint of embarrassment.

This girlfriend of his was good in every single way, except that she kept him on too tight of a leash, which left him feeling quite depressed.

"Ah, so it's my sister-in-law. No worries, I'll wait with you."

Hearing this, Jiang Tian didn't mind at all, and stood next to him to wait together.

In the cold wind, the two of them chatted idly while waiting.

They waited for about half an hour.

"Why isn't she here yet? Didn't she say she was almost here?"

Zhang Miao muttered as he looked into the distance, then turned an apologetic look to Jiang Tian. "Brother Tian, if this really isn't working, you go on inside first. It's too cold out here, I can just wait by myself."

Jiang Tian shook his head at that. "It's not that cold, let's wait together. You standing here alone is still just standing."

A wave of emotion welled up in Zhang Miao's heart. Just as he pulled out a cigarette to light one up with Jiang Tian again-

"Zhang Miao!"

A crisp female voice came from the distance.

Zhang Miao's hand pulling out the cigarette paused. Raising his head to look, a wave of joy immediately washed over him when he saw who had arrived. "Yueyue, you're here?"

Jiang Tian also looked over at the sound, seeing that the newcomer was a petite-looking and somewhat delicate girl walking over from afar. Although the lighting was somewhat dim, he could still clearly make out her features.

The girl was quite pretty, with delicate and petite facial features typical of a Jiangnan-style woman. Wearing light makeup, she looked even more pure and moving.

The girl quickly reached the two of them, and Zhang Miao pulled her into a one-armed embrace around the shoulder, smiling at Jiang Tian. "Brother Tian, let me introduce you. This is my girlfriend, Liu Yue!"

Jiang Tian gave a polite greeting. "Hello."

"Oh, let me introduce you. This is my best buddy from high school, Jiang Tian! He only just came back recently, and tonight we planned to get together with him."

Zhang Miao said with a smile.

Jiang Tian chimed in, "That's right, Zhang Miao and I had a really great relationship back in high school. Good buddies."

Liu Yue nodded, her gaze sweeping back and forth over Jiang Tian.

"Alright, it's pretty cold out here, let's go inside and talk."

With that, Zhang Miao held Liu Yue's hand with one while resting his other arm near Jiang Tian as they walked toward the restaurant.

Arriving at the private room, the three of them took their seats.

Zhang Miao had already ordered the food and drinks in advance, so they just had to wait for them to be served.

While waiting for the food, Zhang Miao poured water for Jiang Tian and Liu Yue while smiling. "Yueyue, let me tell you, my Brother Tian was definitely an absolute figure of influence in our high school back then. Not only was he handsome and great at studying, but he was also exceptionally good at playing basketball! At that time, the girls chasing him could line up from the classroom door all the way to the school gate."

Liu Yue was startled upon hearing this, then said, "Is it vacation then? Your company is pretty great then, actually giving you vacation this early!"

Jiang Tian smiled faintly. "It's not a vacation, I've simply never worked a job at all."

"Never worked a job?"

Liu Yue was completely dumbfounded.

Jiang Tian nodded. "Yeah, I had some accidents when I was young, and only recently returned home. I haven't participated in any work in between."

Hearing this, the appreciative look Liu Yue originally held for Jiang Tian shifted slightly, and she was no longer as enthusiastic. After a dry laugh, she stopped answering.

Unable to save face, Zhang Miao hurriedly said, "Brother Tian, don't worry. I'll help you look into connections recently; maybe I can find you a job?"

Yet right after he finished speaking, before Jiang Tian could even open his mouth, Liu Yue chimed in. "Forget it, you're about to be unable to save yourself soon enough, why are you still worrying about other people?"

Seeing Liu Yue undermine him, Zhang Miao's expression turned thoroughly ugly, feeling that he was losing face in front of his brother. Just as he was about to scold her-

Sensing something was amiss, Jiang Tian quickly changed the subject. "Sanshui, don't worry about me. What about you and sister-in-law, when are you planning to get married? I'll definitely give a huge red envelope when that time comes!"

"What matter?"

"My mom said that if you want to marry me, the bride price is two hundred thousand, the house can be paid in installments, but the car must be fully paid for upfront and bought before the wedding."

Liu Yue took a sip of water and said flatly.

"What? A two hundred thousand bride price? Weren't we all agreed on one hundred and twenty thousand before, how did it go up again! And the car, weren't you saying before that we'd buy it after paying off the mortgage?"

Hearing this, Zhang Miao instantly grew agitated.

Watching his massive reaction, Liu Yue couldn't help frowning. "Just tell me whether you agree or not?"

"Agree my ass! Are you guys trying to take my life? A one hundred and twenty thousand bride price already takes me two or three years of saving without eating or drinking, and now you're adding another eighty thousand, plus you demand a car-why don't you just drive me to my death?"

Zhang Miao said with a voice that was practically a roar, his eyes turning red.

Seeing him acting like he wanted to eat someone, Liu Yue was also given a fright. Softening her tone a bit, she said, "I'm just listening to my mom too. She said that if these things aren't settled clearly before marriage, then I'll be the one suffering after marriage. I certainly don't want to suffer along with you."

"Don't want to suffer with me? Then you should have said so earlier!"

Liu Yue seemed to have caught a temper too, slamming her hand on the table and raising her voice.

Sitting across from them, Jiang Tian saw this scene and couldn't help frowning.

Although he wanted to say something, the thought that this was a private matter between them made it awkward for him to chime in.

"Liu Yue, don't think I don't know what kind of scheme your family is pulling. Isn't your mom adding eighty thousand to the bride price just to pay off gambling debts for your good-for-nothing younger brother? I'm telling you clearly right now, I won't give you an extra dime! If we can negotiate, we'll keep talking; if we can't, then get the hell out of here!"

With a wave of his hand, Zhang Miao spoke with a voice carrying anger.

"Fine, Zhang Miao, you've got guts. Don't regret this!"

Liu Yue hadn't expected Zhang Miao to refuse so decisively. Stunned for a moment, she dropped a harsh remark and grabbed her bag, preparing to leave.

Seeing that things seemed to be getting a bit out of hand, Jiang Tian felt that if he didn't speak up now, he wouldn't be doing right by them.

"Hey, sister-in-law..."

Before he could finish his sentence, however, Liu Yue cut him off directly, saying in a sharp voice:

"Get lost, who's your sister-in-law, you two stinking plebs, you deserve to have no money for the rest of your lives. What good is being handsome-no damn use at all!"
