|---|---|---|
| First-tier mutant beast; lesser spirit monster | 3 | Chen Beiwu estimates fewer than ten years of cultivation. His fortune approaches the second tier, suggesting potential to become a second-tier spirit beast—not an attained breakthrough. |
| Cultivation breakthrough; reconnaissance talent awakened | 16 | After eating spirit deer meat and Illusion Weasel Wolf meat, his accumulated cultivation breaks through. He manifests a pale-golden flame star chart; no exact new cultivation total is given. |
| Offensive spell derived from Blazing Flame Pull | 26 | After a week of practice, he has not mastered Blazing Flame Pull’s basics, but develops his own offensive spell and uses a Flame Hound and a pillar of flame against Lin Yu. |
- A later comparison places Iron Egg roughly in the same realm as Golden Egg at ten years of cultivation: a first-realm lesser spirit monster 43.
- Chen Beiwu’s suggestion that he might become a Hound General is an aspiration, not an achieved rank 16.
Background / History
Five years before his introduction, Chen Beiwu found Iron Egg through a blue-fortune encounter triggered by Nine-Breath Chaos. A runaway Dayun truck struck the puppy and threw him to Chen Beiwu’s feet. Chen Beiwu rushed him to a veterinary hospital, where surgery saved his life. The doctor established that his hind-leg paralysis was congenital, not caused by the collision, and warned that treatment would be costly and dangerous. Chen Beiwu adopted him and chose the name “Iron Egg” in the hope that he would survive and grow strong 3 4.
A year before his introduction, Iron Egg carried the unconscious Chen Dong out of a burning, collapsed brick kiln. The rescue greatly raised his standing in the household and demonstrated that he possessed cultivation. Chen Beiwu considered contracting him, but abandoned the idea because Iron Egg’s fire attribute conflicted with his own water-and-wood spiritual roots 3.
Upon reaching the seventh layer of Qi Refining, Chen Beiwu planned to obtain Bone-Tempering Powder through his school and test whether it could help Iron Egg’s hind legs. No treatment result is documented in the supplied chapters 3.
Appearance
Iron Egg has glossy black fur likened to satin woven from the night, with snow-white markings around his paws 3.
- Hind legs: Lie limp because of congenital paralysis 3.
- Forelegs: Powerful and straight, compared to two black spears 3.
- Paw markings: Become noticeably whiter after his cultivation breakthrough 16.
Personality
Iron Egg is affectionate, obedient, and protective. He immediately quiets when Chen Beiwu tells him to, nuzzles his hand, and guards the cultivation-room door while he trains. His loyalty persists even under overwhelming fear: after encountering the Azure Thunder Tiger, he stands in front of his master despite trembling and tucking his tail between his legs 3 4 20.
He is also stubborn about his disability, demonstrating the strength of his forelegs when Chen Beiwu proposes treatment. Food strongly motivates him: he accepts a revised share of their snake catches in exchange for spell instruction and agrees to take the blame for the attack on Lin Yu when promised meat and a large, meaty bone 3 22 26.
Although intelligent enough to understand instructions and convey information, Iron Egg does not understand Chen Beiwu’s terminology for his talent or ambitions. When praised as a future tracking dog and Hound General, he is simply delighted that his master is happy 16.
Abilities & Skills
Flame Control
- Uses spiritual energy to keep a tea tray warm before developing offensive fire techniques 5.
- Releases enough fire-aspect demonic power during his breakthrough that Chen Beiwu contains it with the Water Prison Spell to protect the house 16.
- Attacks with flame-wreathed jaws and later manifests a Flame Hound and a pillar of flame 25 26.
- Derives his own offensive spell from Blazing Flame Pull without mastering the original spell’s basics 26.
Reconnaissance and Tracking
- Produces a crude star chart from pale-golden flame, displaying nearby beings as colored points of light 16.
- Detects his approaching parents during the talent’s first demonstration 16.
- Displays three prominent sky-blue points corresponding to known second-tier spirit-beast territories, alongside numerous green points 19.
- Leads Chen Beiwu through concealing mist to Spirit Lake and identifies a concentration of Jade-Scale Snakes on its central island 19 20.
- Estimates that he can use the talent approximately four times per day; Chen Beiwu suspects replenishment methods could increase this, but does not test it 16.
- Has difficulty locating isolated, concealed Jade-Scale Snakes because their scent is faint, and may find the wrong snake species 20.
Physical Strength and Mobility
- Moves fast enough that only late-stage Qi Refining cultivators can barely follow his initial approach, despite his paralyzed hind legs 3.
- Possesses a tail powerful enough to shatter solid rock; Chen Beiwu compares its destructive force to the mid-grade, first-tier Sharp Gold Art 18.
- Holds a defeated Blackstone Bear by the throat until ordered to release it 24.
- Coordinates with Chen Beiwu in combat, feinting an attack on Tong Yu while Chen Beiwu breaks the cultivator’s defenses 25.
Intelligence and Household Skills
- Communicates through barks, nods, gestures, and scent recognition 16 20 29.
- Cleans and scrubs toilets, carries cups and trays on his head, but cannot brew tea 5 16.
- Obeys lookout instructions, including remaining silent unless an enemy appears 19.
- Can eat mildly poisonous Illusion Weasel Wolf meat without showing poisoning during the observed feeding; this does not establish general poison immunity 15 16.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Blazing Flame Pull jade slip — Chen Beiwu presents it as the ancient “Heavenly Dog Swallowing the Sun Scripture” to encourage Iron Egg to study. Iron Egg activates its instruction by coating his tongue in demonic energy and licking it 22.
Relationships
- Chen Beiwu — Rescuer, owner, trainer, and exploration partner. He feeds Iron Egg cultivation resources and relies on his tracking and combat assistance, but does not form a companion-beast contract with him because of their incompatible attributes 3 16 19 25.
- Chen Dong — Member of Iron Egg’s household whom he rescued from a burning brick kiln, preventing his death 3 4.
- Huang Xiaoling — Member of the Chen household; Iron Egg delivers her prepared tea to Chen Beiwu 5.
- Lin Yu — Hostile bandit cultivator whose escape Iron Egg blocks after understanding Chen Beiwu’s glance. Although Iron Egg accepts responsibility, Chen Beiwu later determines that her own Soul-Seizing Nail’s backlash killed her 26 27.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Spirit Lake Discovery
- Travels to the other world with Chen Beiwu through the Ten Directions Chaos Gate and serves as lookout at their cave base 19.
- Accepts a fifty-fifty split of Jade-Scale Snake catches and leads Chen Beiwu to Spirit Lake, where an Azure Thunder Tiger forces them to escape through the gate 19.
- Confirms afterward that the lake’s central island contains many Jade-Scale Snakes; his navigation was accurate despite the danger 20.
Mountain Exploration and Bandit Encounter
- Helps find three Jade-Scale Snakes and two first-tier exotic herbs during a day of mountain exploration 24.
- Assists in killing a Blackstone Bear with twenty years of cultivation and warns Chen Beiwu of approaching cultivators 24 25.
- Participates in the ambush against Tong Yu and guards Chen Beiwu while Lin Yu surrenders her possessions 25 26.
- Blocks Lin Yu’s retreat with fire techniques, precipitating her fatal use of the Soul-Seizing Nail 26 27.
Cultivation Environment
- After experiencing the other world’s abundant spiritual energy, finds the household cultivation room too depleted to practice effectively. Chen Beiwu promises to take him back to a richer environment 29.
- Later notices the strong scent of water-attribute spirit beasts on Chen Beiwu when he returns after contracting Golden Egg, a separate beast companion 42 46.
