Niwan? Purple Mansion?
Lin Ke mulled over those two terms, searching the original owner's memories.
Cultivation was divided into many realms. The original owner did not know all of them, but he did know the first few.
For instance, the Qi Refining Stage he was currently in; the Dao Foundation Initial Stage that Li Le and his senior sister had reached to become inner disciples; and the Golden Core Stage of the direct disciples.
The elders, for example, were Nascent Soul experts, while the supreme elders and sect master were great cultivators at the Fusion Stage...
What came after that?
He had no idea.
But in his previous life, he had read classics such as the Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon and the Taihua Scripture.
The nine True Persons of Niwan each had their own chamber. The brain spirit was named Essence Root, styled Niwan, and the place where Niwan resided was called the Niwan Palace.
In other words, the head.
Cultivation required opening a Sea of Consciousness, which was contained within Niwan.
The human body had three palaces.
The upper origin palace, also called Niwan.
The middle origin palace, the crimson chamber-in other words, the heart-was the central foundation.
The lower origin palace, the cinnabar field, whose spirit resembled an infant, embraced the origin and preserved oneness.
That meant immortal cultivation in this world began developing the lower origin palace at the Dao Foundation Stage, only completing that development at the Nascent Soul Realm.
And what about Lin Ke?
Now, after the pearl that had originally been in his mind exploded, he dimly realized...
He had actually skipped over the lower origin palace and middle origin palace, directly opening the Niwan Palace of the upper origin palace!
At that thought, Lin Ke's consciousness slipped into this newly opened space.
The moment he entered, he felt the solid sensation of his feet touching the ground.
It was a space several hundred meters across, with dark yellow soil beneath his feet and some kind of blue-gray gas filling the sky.
Lin Ke even felt that this Niwan Palace was not inside his mind at all, but connected to some profoundly mysterious place.
After only a brief stay, he could already feel his spiritual power growing wildly.
Cultivating spiritual power here would yield twice the results for half the effort!
And that was not all...
According to the information he had received within his soul, his Niwan Palace had two special functions...
Functions other people's Niwan Palaces did not possess, but his had gained through the mysterious pearl-
Cultivation and fusion!
First came fusion!
Because the souls from two worlds had fused, his Niwan Palace had undergone certain changes, allowing some creatures to mate and produce offspring that combined the two.
How did that fusion work?
A bull mating with a snake was equivalent to placing the bull's horns on the snake's body, creating an Azure Sky Bull Python.
A Titan Giant Serpent mating with a gorilla would produce a Titan Giant Ape.
That was fusion!
In the normal world outside, this would be utterly impossible. It violated the most fundamental laws of biology.
But inside his Niwan Palace, the impossible became possible!
If that were all, it would be nothing special.
After all, some fused creations might not even survive.
For example, putting a whale's heart inside a human body would probably make the body explode with a single heartbeat.
But Lin Ke's Niwan Palace did not merely possess the power of "fusion."
It had another function... cultivation!
Here, Lin Ke could nurture even a single fertilized egg into a new life!
"This is incredible..." Lin Ke's body trembled slightly with excitement.
Yet excited as he was, he did not let down his guard, much less become arrogant.
After all, powerful though fusion and cultivation were, they were only supporting abilities. They could not catapult him into becoming the strongest person in the world.
Moreover, these two functions of the Niwan Palace had plenty of shortcomings.
For example, he could not directly alter the forms of creatures that already possessed intelligence. Dragging a horse inside and turning it into a unicorn was certainly impossible.
His own body could not be altered either. He could not attach a pair of wings to himself.
Besides, this place could not create things out of thin air. He could only bring things in from outside to nurture, and doing so consumed his spiritual power.
At the same time, he could not control the final adult forms of the species he cultivated.
For instance, suppose he brought in a Blackgold Silkworm to mate with a cockroach.
He had no control over whether the next generation inherited the Blackgold Silkworm's silk production and the cockroach's tenacious vitality, or the Blackgold Silkworm's fragile body and the cockroach's aversion to light.
He might produce a powerful new species with vitality rivaling a cockroach's and the ability to spin silk.
Or he might produce a bunch of fragile creatures that died at a touch like Blackgold Silkworms and were sensitive to light and temperature like cockroaches.
In short, although fusion and cultivation were possible, his Niwan Palace still had many shortcomings and restrictions.
Still, to Lin Ke, the abilities of this Niwan Palace were enough to shock the world.
Used well, it would be his greatest asset in this life!
"Then let's start experimenting!"
"Blackgold Silkworms, don't disappoint me..."
He put his thoughts straight into action!
Bringing things into the Niwan Palace consumed spiritual power, and the smaller they were, the less it consumed.
Moreover, his strength was nowhere near enough to handle the vicious demonic beasts of the Poison Tempering Mountains, so insects were his best choice.
What kind of insects would be best?
Spirit insects, of course!
The Golden Wing Sect's most formidable insects were spirit bees known by the ancient title of "Golden-Wing Envoy."
In fact, the Golden Wing Sect had relied on them to grow powerful, build its fortune, and establish the sect.
Thus, many things in this sect involved insects. The Green Mulberry Garden merely happened to be one of its least valued places.
At present, he had no way to purchase spirit insects, nor could he defeat any powerful ones. Obtaining Golden-Wing Envoys, which only direct disciples or higher-ranking members of the Golden Wing Sect could access, was even more impossible.
Fortunately, he did have access to one kind of spirit insect unique to the Green Mulberry Garden...
Blackgold Silkworms!
"I'll experiment with Blackgold Moths first!"
With his plan settled, he immediately went down the mountain and had the farm women of the Green Mulberry Garden find him several male breeding insects that had already transformed from Blackgold Silkworms into Blackgold Moths.
Then he spent the entire afternoon and another two hours that evening searching the surrounding woods, collecting several longhorn beetles, a dozen or so cockroaches, and assorted scarab beetles, dung beetles, mantises, bees, and other insects.
Thanks to the restoration of his original cultivation, catching these insects was not difficult for someone at the ninth level of Qi Refining.
Afterward, he returned to his room carrying bags of insects, large and small.
Although Blackgold Silkworms were his only spirit insects, they were enough for him to put some ideas into practice.
"I'll bring them all inside first..."
Once back in his room, Lin Ke sat cross-legged and extended his spiritual power over the gauze cages on the floor.
He could bring these insects inside and see what changes occurred when other living creatures entered his Niwan Palace.
He kept feeling that fusion and cultivation were merely its most basic abilities, and that many more awaited his discovery.
But for him right now, fusion and cultivation were naturally the most useful.
First, he could cultivate a new variety of Blackgold Silkworm that produced more silk, allowing him to complete his sect assignment.
Second, he could use the Blackgold Silkworms' nature as spirit insects to crossbreed them with other insects and produce spirit insects with offensive capabilities.
As a sect devoted to controlling insects, it allowed all disciples to use spirit insects during the sect tournament. It even encouraged them to do so, provided they had raised or subdued the insects themselves.
Thus, if he could breed some relatively powerful mutant insects and bring them into the sect tournament arena, they would undoubtedly be a great help.
If he was lucky enough to be taken as an elder's disciple, all the better. Then he would have someone backing him.
As he thought, Lin Ke brought the insects into his Niwan Palace one by one.
Upon entering the Niwan Palace, Lin Ke's spiritual power immediately began growing rapidly.
Cultivating in the Niwan Palace seemed to accelerate the growth of spiritual power.
But cultivation was not his priority now, so he focused his attention on the things in his hands.
The insects, which had been somewhat listless after he caught them outside, sprang to life one after another.
The dark gold Blackgold Moths fluttered their wings, lifting their plump abdomens high as they wriggled around searching for females.
As spirit insects, Blackgold Moths spent most of their lives as silkworms, with the smaller portion divided among their egg, cocoon, and moth stages.
For the Golden Wing Sect, too, Blackgold Silkworms were most useful during their silkworm stage.
Thus, the Blackgold Moths' lifespan was less than a tenth of the Blackgold Silkworms', and they generally died after mating.
But that did nothing to curb these male Blackgold Moths' intense desire to mate.
They frantically beat their wings, which were too short to let them fly, and bumped around everywhere, seemingly searching for female moth pheromones that did not exist in the air.
Lin Ke tried picking up a male Blackgold Moth and placing him in his hand. Then he pinched a cockroach between his fingers and aligned its rear with the male Blackgold Moth's rear.
Let the mating begin!
