Harimu and Jade Mountain River both liked the courtyards, so the next steps were transferring ownership and renovating them.
The next morning, Li Long drove Harimu and Jade Mountain River to the Housing Administration Department again and transferred the two courtyards into their names.
Once they had the keys, Li Long drove the two men to Harimu's courtyard first.
The courtyard had been cleaned up nicely. The rooms were empty, with everything moved out. Inside, the upper walls were white and the lower halves painted green, a popular style at the time.
"Have a look. How do you want it renovated? Wooden kangs in both bedrooms, or just one? Should we put a writing desk in the children's room? And a bookshelf?"
Li Long asked Harimu what he wanted.
Harimu was rather excited. In all his life, he had never imagined living in such a lovely courtyard. Even now, it felt like a dream. Was this really his?
When his family found out, especially Nasen and Sasiken, would they go wild with delight? When his wife came and saw all this, would she be so happy she started dancing the Black Steed?
There were only five people in the family. One room for the two children, one for the couple, and one for his mother would be plenty.
"Put wooden kangs in our room and my mother's room." By now, Harimu no longer felt that he was troubling Li Long. He had troubled him so many times already that neither needed to stand on ceremony. "For Nasen and Sasiken's room, two single beds would be better."
One good thing about this courtyard was that it had its own small boiler and radiators. This area was not part of a residential compound and had not yet been connected to central heating,
