In a workshop at the Farm Machinery Factory, Engineer Deng and several technicians were dismantling the machine. One moment they were discussing it enthusiastically, the next arguing heatedly. From time to time, Engineer Deng jotted something in his notebook.
Clearly, the machine's arrival had brought considerable technical progress, but new problems had arisen too.
After inspecting the other workshops, Factory Director Du came over. Seeing Engineer Deng and the others frowning over a component, he asked:
"How's it going, Engineer Deng? With this equipment, are those problems easier to solve?"
"Not entirely." Engineer Deng shook his head. "How should I put it? Right now, we're mainly comparing the problems the three of us worked out with the corresponding components on this equipment. We've found that the things Comrade Li Long described aren't entirely the same as what's here."
"What do you mean? Did Comrade Li Long remember wrong?"
"No, not that. Our comparisons and research show that some of Comrade Li Long's ideas are quite advanced. They're better and more convenient than the original features of this equipment."
"Well, that settles it. You know Comrade Li Long may only have a middle school education, but he certainly has a knack for developing farm machinery. We can't underestimate him.
"Since his ideas are more advanced, we'll just follow what he said. We're not trying to copy this foreign equipment. We're developing something new that suits our own circumstances. Otherwise, I'd be embarrassed to take it to an exhibition, wouldn't I?"
"That's true, but there are still some difficulties." Engineer Deng's brow remained furrowed.
"What problems? Tell me," Factory Director Du said.
"Well, with our current machining capabilities, some things we can make, some we can just barely manage, and some we simply can't."
