Chen Dajun's words reminded Li Long of a term: social responsibility. He liked reading miscellaneous books in his spare time and had come across a saying by the Second Sage Mencius: "In poverty, cultivate yourself; in prosperity, benefit the world."
Li Long was not capable of anything so grand, but he was willing to help others when it was within his means and would not disrupt his normal life. Sometimes, a small effort might save someone's life. Why not do it?
Of course, he could not go out of his way to do this. Someone would have to come to him, or he could call Liu Shanmin, who might be able to save someone with little trouble if he encountered a similar situation.
Because of this, Li Long even made time to spend several days at the purchasing station, chatting and gossiping with the resellers. He listened to find out which of them had gone to the China-Kazakhstan border to conduct import and export trade, and which had taken the risk of going directly into Kazakhstan to do business.
To his surprise, Old Fan, Fan Mingcheng, one of the earliest to enter the trade, had always followed the rules and operated only along the border. He had never once gone across. Old Fan was quite cautious, it seemed.
Instead, several young men much like Dai Jianguo enjoyed taking risks and specifically went to Panfilov and Almaty to do business. Most were relatively safe, going over and coming back quickly. A scattered few had said here that they would go across, but had never been seen returning.
Whether they had made their fortunes or fallen on hard times and no longer wanted to visit the purchasing station to talk to others, or had been arrested like Dai Jianguo, nobody knew.
After
