With the harvester attached, the tractor's chugging sounded a little deeper than usual.
Abulaiti and Abudusaimaiti took turns climbing aboard to try the controls. While one sat on the tractor, the other watched from in front of the harvester. Li Long stood beside them, giving instructions and doing his best to familiarize them with every step.
Both had clearly driven tractors before. After going through the controls twice, they had the hang of it.
"It's currently set to push the cut crops over to the tractor's left, where they fall so they're easy to bundle," Li Long explained. "These two rods extend out to mark the cutting width.
"If you want the crops to fall to the left, remove the left rod. If you want them to fall to the right, remove the right rod. The adjustment switch is here.
"I used this harvester all summer this year. The most common problem is crops getting caught in the gaps between the blades. Then it stops turning and cutting. That's easy to spot.
"When you notice it, stop the machine, shut off the engine, and pull out the crops caught in between. That'll fix it."
Li Long not only taught them how to operate it but also explained its minor faults one by one.
This left both Abulaiti and Abudusaimaiti very satisfied.
At least Li Long was sincere in his approach to service.
"That's the current condition of this harvester." Seeing that neither man intended to try it again, Li Long shut off the tractor, put wooden blocks underneath, and detached the harvester by himself.
Abulaiti hurried over to help.
