As Li Jianguo looked at the figures, his expression shifted from puzzlement to surprise, then to excitement.
"Deputy Commander Wang-Old Chen?"
The men were also surprised by the Jeep approaching them. A vehicle like that was for someone at least at regimental commander or farm director level. Had someone come all this way just to hunt?
They had heard the gunshots too, which was why they had all come running out.
The Jeep's license plate showed that it belonged to the Corps, though they could not tell which regiment.
But that did not matter. They all belonged to the same organization. It would be good to say hello and offer some hospitality.
After all, they were the hosts here. If a leader from the same organization came and nobody received him, it would sound bad if word got around. Their own leaders would lose face too.
"Someone you know, Brother?" Li Long asked. "Should I stop?"
"Of course. See that tall fellow? He was our deputy company commander, Wang Mingjun. We got along well back then. The deputy commander handled logistics. The heavier one is Old Chen. He's a bit older than me. He was the cook squad leader and reported to me-the company wasn't as big back then. There were fewer people to look after, and everyone ate together."
Watching the four men ahead, Li Jianguo recalled those days. "Everyone had such huge appetites back then..."
The Jeep stopped by the roadside, and the men immediately came over.
They had already spotted Li Long in the driver's seat. A young fellow who looked really sharp. A fine driver.
And in the passenger seat... Was that...
Wang Mingjun's and Big Old Chen's eyes widened!
How was that possible?
Only when the vehicle stopped did Li Jianguo come back to himself.
