After Qiao Xing left, Li Long busied himself settling accounts and paying everyone.
Early on the morning of October 14, Li Long went to Team Leader Xu Chengjun's home.
"What? You want to show a movie?"
"Yes. I made some money buying the team's watermelon seeds this time, so I thought I'd put on a few movies for everyone."
"A few?" Xu Chengjun froze for a moment. "One would be enough. Why several?"
"Let's show three. Everyone's pretty much free now anyway. There's not much work, and nothing to do in the evenings. They might as well watch some movies," Li Long said with a smile. "It'll give them some entertainment."
Xu Chengjun gave Li Long a long look, then smiled.
People came to show movies at the Fourth Team every summer and autumn. They weren't invited by private individuals; it was an assignment from the Cultural Palace, much like the later programs that brought culture to the countryside. They brought films out to the villages to give the farmers some cultural enjoyment.
They had shown Tunnel Warfare, Painted Skin, and Shaolin Temple.
Some people liked them, and some didn't. Usually, though, whether they liked the films or not, everyone would still come to such a cheerful gathering. Even if they didn't care about the movie itself, it was lively sitting around together.
The evenings were a little chilly by mid-October, but there was one advantage: there were no mosquitoes anymore.
Mosquitoes were a real nuisance at an evening movie. While watching, it wasn't so bad. If the story was engrossing, people didn't even notice the mosquitoes sucking their blood. Once they got home, though, they would find bites all over their faces, wrists, and ankles.
