After Lu Yingming and his wife left, Li Long said solemnly to Li Jianguo:
"Big Brother, there's something I want to talk to you about."
"Go ahead." Seeing how serious Li Long was, Li Jianguo guessed it must be something important. He stubbed out his cigarette and asked, "What is it?"
"I was thinking we should do something big after the New Year. I want to see if I can get selected as a national Advanced Individual for Ethnic Unity."
"What? What do you want that for?" Li Jianguo was a little bewildered. Li Long had told him about what had happened in previous years. Whether it was the Autonomous Region or the Prefecture's Advanced Individual award, the authorities had taken the initiative to give it to him after his deeds had been reported in the news.
In other words, neither of those honors had been something Li Long had actively pursued.
Now that he had suddenly brought this up, he must have something in mind.
"Didn't we buy a courtyard house in Yanjing? Now that we have it, shouldn't we go check on it regularly? If something really happens while we're there, we can't rely on Xiaoyu, can we? Without any title to my name, I certainly couldn't handle any real trouble there."
Yanjing was the nation's foremost city, a place people from all over the country flocked to. Without some standing there, it was hard to say what would happen if trouble arose.
So Li Long felt that if he really wanted a foothold there, he needed at least a legitimate title to his name. If he went once or twice a year, at least he could hold on to that courtyard house.
Hearing this, Li Jianguo slowly nodded.
That was true. It was thousands of kilometers away.
