The two of them listened to the commotion up ahead and waited patiently off to the side, occasionally walking over to chat with people they knew.
"Dongzi, what's going on?"
A-Guang had grown impatient waiting at the back of the line. He asked the people ahead of and behind him to watch his spot, then ran up to see what was happening.
"Some people didn't sort their shellfish properly. There were lots of empty shells, and some mixed small ones in with the large ones. They got caught. Apparently, they're cutting the price for the batch already shipped out, and lowering the price for what comes in next. The buyers are in there discussing it."
"Huh? I was wondering why the line hadn't moved in forever. Aren't these buying stations being too fussy? So what if a few get mixed in? Isn't that normal?"
"Did you mix some in too? They just picked through someone's load, and thirty percent of it was mixed-in junk."
"Holy shit! Seriously? That's fucking ruthless! I mixed some in too, figuring there was no way to sort so much stuff that carefully, but I wasn't nearly that bad."
Everyone around them was saying things like, who hadn't mixed some in? Wasn't a little perfectly normal? Couldn't the buyers just turn a blind eye?
Ye Yaodong suddenly felt as though he couldn't catch his breath. Those people deserved a price cut, but he would be taking a huge loss!
When they delivered their morning haul, he had seen how carefully the buyers sorted everything, keeping the large ones separate from the small ones. After going home, he and his father had sorted theirs the same way.
Fucking hell. If they cut everyone's prices indiscriminately, he would cry.
He lost all interest in chatting and hurried forward
