Secretary Chen and the others listened intently to the officials telling their stories, not daring to interrupt.
When Ye Yaodong had chimed in just now, they had all looked over, thinking he was awfully bold.
But now that they had heard this much, everyone was curious too.
Secretary Chen ventured a question. "If there's even a nursery rhyme passed down on their island, there must be other places with treasure buried, right?"
"Who knows? Generations of people on that island have studied it without figuring it out. For outsiders like us, stumbling onto one find was lucky enough. Who has time to neglect their actual work and wander around an island all day?"
"That's true, that's true."
"We'll be conducting a thorough search of that barren mountain over the next few days to see whether we find anything else. Remind the fishermen in your village not to go near that area for now. If they linger too long, they might be locked up for a couple of days."
"Yes, of course," the village chief hurriedly agreed. "We'll record a broadcast this afternoon reminding the villagers not to go that way."
Ye Yaodong worried a little that the search might take too long and interfere with his squid fishing.
But on second thought, they had plenty of official duties to attend to and could hardly stay on the island forever. With so many people in the Border Defense Production Team, they should finish searching the island in a few days at most. If they found nothing, they would leave.
That thought put him somewhat at ease.
Perhaps, once word spread that the Border Defense Production Team was working there, no fishing boats would dare approach the surrounding waters for quite some time. Perhaps things would stay quiet for a long while.
