The Iron Fist Gang members' eyes went wide.
This guy still wasn't dead?!
After that barrage, even a man made of iron should have been shot full of holes!
A dark golden sheen glimmered beneath Chen Lun's tattered clothes.
He raised his head and flashed a savage grin.
Although his Pangolin Armor had protected him from that barrage, the sheer number of hits dealing a minimum of [-1] damage had still taken a chunk out of his health.
"Every last one of you here is going to die!"
Before his words had faded, he vanished.
The man who had been about to shoot the stray dog suddenly swung his arm around and fired his blunderbuss straight ahead.
Bang!!
-Something went wrong!
The blunderbuss exploded in his hands, scattering fragments and iron nails.
"Damn it!"
He cursed, his body covered in tiny wounds. Luckily, his Iron Fist Gauntlet had protected his hand, or he would have lost the whole thing!
Crack!!
A sweeping kick.
The Iron Fist Gang member, who had just been congratulating himself on wearing Mad Hands and surviving the exploding gun, instantly lost everything from his head up.
It was as though a board eraser had wiped it away.
The headless corpse hit the ground with a thud, kicking up dust.
"Kill him! Hurry up and kill him!!"
The remaining Iron Fist Gang members bellowed in terror, their necks red and bulging.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The man who had taken Froy's Flintlock fired three shots in succession.
The figure wreathed in a dark golden sheen darted left and right like a phantom, then appeared before him a second later.
Every shot missed.
A pair of emerald slit pupils brimming with murderous intent stared straight at him.
"No!!"
An arm shot out like a python from its den, its open hand clamping around his neck.
"Aaaargh!"
Chen Lun held him like a rag doll and hurled him at the others.
With a series of crashes, they all toppled to the ground.
"Let hunger blossom..."
Chen Lun pulled the trigger twice.
Twang! Twang!
The string of the [Tongue of Gluttony] vibrated, and two crimson bolts struck two of the men dead-on.
"Hungry!!"
The men who had been hit suddenly lunged, grabbing the people beneath them and biting them in a frenzy.
Screams mingled with the sounds of gnawing.
Connie could not help turning her head away from the bloody sight.
The final two survivors, their mouths smeared with blood, began tearing into and devouring each other.
Until nothing remained.
"Whew...!"
Chen Lun let out a long breath.
Using the Hand Crossbow repeatedly had consumed a fair amount of stamina.
He could have killed all these Iron Fist Gang members in a much easier way.
But he had chosen not to.
It was not just because they had dared to attack Froy and disrupted his plans. He had also wanted to test the Hand Crossbow in actual combat.
He was very satisfied with the results.
"Mr. Jack, are you all right?"
Connie hurried over.
Froy picked up the Flintlock that belonged to her and quietly hid it behind her back. She looked at Chen Lun with her usual expression, then silently let her concern show.
Chen Lun shook his head.
The animal traits on his body had already vanished, restoring his original appearance.
"I'm fine."
Connie was stunned after witnessing Chen Lun's inhuman display. But she did not dare ask too many questions, feeling that Mr. Jack was growing more mysterious by the moment.
Those supernatural things had shaken her understanding of the world too deeply for her to process them just yet.
"Froy, you two head back first."
Chen Lun gave the instruction.
"All right."
Froy did not ask what he was going to do, simply nodding obediently.
Chapter 39: I'm Here to Kill (Please Keep Reading!)
Woof, woof!
The stray dog appeared again.
Wagging its tail, it darted to Chen Lun's feet.
"You're still here? Perfect. I need your help with something."
He stroked the dog's head.
Then his fingers shifted slightly, and a faint light emerged from their tips.
His lips parted, and he let out a loud meow.
Meow!
Meow!!
Answers came from every direction.
Then countless green eyes appeared in the darkness.
Connie and Froy were startled.
A full thirty or forty stray cats of every color gathered around them.
"They'll escort you home. Don't worry."
Chen Lun turned to the two girls.
"Ah... is-is this really happening?"
Connie froze for a moment, then felt rather dazed.
Tonight truly felt like a dream.
She had faced danger and been rescued, witnessed a vicious battle, and now she was going home surrounded by so many little cats!
Woof!
Like the leader of the pack, the stray dog led the other cats as they milled around Froy and Connie's feet.
It seemed to be saying, Don't worry, boss. With us here, no lecherous mutt will get a chance to bother these two!
"Be careful."
Froy spoke softly.
Chen Lun nodded and gave her a reassuring look.
Though he had no idea whether Froy could read it...
Then Froy took Connie with her and followed the cats and dog away.
Once they had disappeared from view, Chen Lun bent down and picked up a blunderbuss from the ground.
[Blazing Fire-Homemade Flintlock] Item description: A gunpowder flintlock independently researched and crafted by artisans. Rough workmanship and unconventional ideas gave rise to this weapon. Its flared muzzle gives it devastating power at close range, with no restrictions on ammunition. A handful of iron scraps can blast a person to bits! Of course, its insignificant drawback is that it is rather unstable and prone to exploding, making it a little hard on the hands...
After reading the description, Chen Lun could not help thinking of that Iron Fist Gauntlet.
"Mad Hands... don't tell me it was designed to go with this thing?"
The more he thought about it, the more likely it seemed.
At the same time, he had to admire the artisans who had made these two things.
What an incredible train of thought...
