Tang San and Grandmaster's Crisis, Survival from Desperation (Please Recommend, Please Bookmark!)
Elsewhere, several kilometers away.
They stared intently at the massive dark-green snake head protruding from the bushes not far away.
After clearly seeing the snake head's true appearance beneath the bright moonlight, Grandmaster immediately sucked in a sharp breath.
"It's a Mandala Snake—and one whose cultivation is close to four hundred years!"
"Four hundred years?"
Hearing Grandmaster's words, Tang San's heart immediately jolted.
According to what his teacher had just told him, a ten-year soul beast possessed strength comparable to a human Soul Master, while a hundred-year soul beast could generally only be matched by a Soul Grandmaster.
But although his teacher was a Soul Grandmaster, his martial soul was far too weak.
Against a Mandala Snake with nearly four hundred years of cultivation, one of the most vicious and ferocious of soul beasts, his teacher definitely stood no chance!
"Tang San, leave quickly! Sanpao and I will hold off this Mandala Snake for you!"
Keeping his eyes fixed on the distant Mandala Snake, Grandmaster spoke in a deep voice.
"No! Teacher, we live and die together. If Tang San abandons his teacher because of danger, how would that make me any different from an ungrateful wretch?"
Tang San decisively rejected Grandmaster's proposal and answered firmly.
Tang San had thought this matter through clearly.
He possessed the secret techniques of the Tang Sect. Though this Mandala Snake was powerful, it might not necessarily be able to do anything to him.
He was unwilling to let his state of mind develop a flaw over a mere hundred-year soul beast.
"Little San, you... sigh..."
Hearing Tang San's answer, Grandmaster sighed, yet felt somewhat comforted at the same time.
He had no children in his entire life. Being able to accept such a filial disciple was the most correct thing he had done in his life.
But someone as useless as him could die without consequence. Tang San, however, was still young and possessed Twin Martial Souls. His name should have resounded throughout the entire Douluo Continent in the future. If he died here, it would be far too regrettable!
No! I absolutely have to make sure Little San leaves here safely!
Taking a deep breath inwardly, Grandmaster's gaze turned grave.
"Little San! Because of the realgar we scattered around us, this Mandala Snake does not dare enter for the moment. But the realgar definitely cannot stop it for long. We must leave as soon as possible."
"In a moment, I'll have Sanpao launch an attack. When that happens, you must immediately seize the chance and run toward the area with more trees."
"Mandala Snakes are vicious by nature, but they lack patience. If we can escape for a while, it may give up pursuing us!"
"Yes, Teacher!"
Hearing Grandmaster's words, Tang San's expression also grew solemn.
While Grandmaster watched the Mandala Snake, Tang San activated his Purple Demon Eye to survey their surroundings. In the end, he chose an area in the distance where the trees grew densely together.
With the density of the trees there, they could enter and move around without being greatly hindered.
But the massive Mandala Snake would definitely have great difficulty squeezing through. Even if it managed to enter, its speed would surely be severely affected.
"Are you ready?"
Suddenly, Grandmaster's grave voice rang out.
Tang San hurriedly replied, "I'm ready, Teacher!"
"Good! Sanpao!"
Hearing Tang San's reply, Grandmaster immediately let out a loud shout.
Following Grandmaster's shout, a light-purple soul beast with a strange appearance—pig-like in shape but with two large ears—trotted up before him and suddenly leaped into the air.
As the soul beast jumped up, a yellow soul ring was flung from Grandmaster's arm and wrapped around the creature, Grandmaster's martial soul, Luo Sanpao.
"A fart like thunder, Luo Sanpao shatters heaven and earth!"
After placing the soul ring around Luo Sanpao's body, Grandmaster shouted once more.
Luo Sanpao's already plump body suddenly inhaled and swelled, then twisted around in midair.
With a thunderous explosion, a condensed ball of yellow mist blasted violently from Luo Sanpao's rear, shooting like a cannonball into the Mandala Snake and sending it flying.
Seeing the Mandala Snake blasted away, Grandmaster immediately shouted amid its shrill, miserable hissing, "Little San, run!"
Before he had even finished speaking, Grandmaster turned and bolted away, running in the direction opposite the Mandala Snake. Tang San had already started running as well.
But before they had gone far, an enraged hiss and a rapid rustling sound suddenly came from behind them.
The Mandala Snake had not been hurt at all by Luo Sanpao's previous attack and instantly gave chase.
The Mandala Snake was incredibly fast, as swift as lightning. In the blink of an eye, it crossed more than ten meters and charged after Grandmaster and Tang San.
"Damn it!"
Seeing the Mandala Snake drawing ever closer behind them, Grandmaster gritted his teeth. "Sanpao, go help us hold it back!"
At this point, Grandmaster could only have his own martial soul delay the Mandala Snake.
After all, his martial soul was one with him. As long as he did not die, his martial soul would be fine.
"Luo luo!"
Hearing Grandmaster's command, Luo Sanpao immediately turned around on his four thick, short legs and charged at the Mandala Snake. With a series of snorting cries, he leaped up and rammed toward it.
But compared to the nearly four-meter-long Mandala Snake, the less-than-half-meter Luo Sanpao was far too small.
Before the Mandala Snake's enormous head, Luo Sanpao was practically delivering himself into its jaws. The Mandala Snake instantly opened its mouth and bit down on him.
With a single forceful bite, the Mandala Snake bit Luo Sanpao to death, causing him to burst into countless motes of light.
"Damn it!"
Discovering that Luo Sanpao had only held back the Mandala Snake for a moment, Grandmaster was filled with fury, yet utterly helpless.
Damn it! If my martial soul hadn't mutated, how could a Mandala Snake with less than a thousand years of cultivation possibly chase me into such a state!
At that moment, Grandmaster was consumed by regret.
Though he had been useless for so many years and had long grown accustomed to being looked down upon in every possible way, he had never hated his own weakness as much as he did now!
A useless person like him could die without consequence. But Little San was so well-behaved and sensible, possessed the legendary Twin Martial Souls, and was even that Your Excellency's son. How could he let Little San die here!
"Teacher, watch out!"
As Grandmaster wallowed in self-reproach, Tang San's anxious voice suddenly rang out from afar.
Grandmaster turned his head and saw that, while he had been distracted, the Mandala Snake had somehow already reached his back. Its long body was raised high, its massive dark-green head opened its gaping maw, exposing two sharp venomous fangs as it lunged down to bite.
"Teacher!"
Tang San's desperate shout came from the distance, but Grandmaster could no longer hear anything.
At that moment, all Grandmaster could see was the Mandala Snake's gaping maw, capable of devouring everything.
Am I about to die? Someone as useless as me... dying would be no great loss...
Looking at the gaping maw before him, Grandmaster slowly closed his eyes and quietly awaited the arrival of death.
But suddenly, a fierce shout rang out from afar: "Beast! Close your mouth!"
A shrill whistling sound tore through the air, yet the death he had expected did not come.
Instead, after the sound of a sharp weapon piercing flesh, the Mandala Snake's pained roar erupted at once.
"Who is it?!"
Saved by someone's intervention, Grandmaster abruptly opened his eyes. Together with Tang San, he looked toward where the voice had come from.
In the darkness, a figure was rapidly approaching.
