Pale gray winds swept across the ground, wind blades slicing through loose stones. Countless pinpricks of spatial light floated in the air. Visibility extended no farther than a thousand meters; beyond that, everything was swallowed by chaotic gray fog.

Several Void Riftback Beasts, each nearly twenty meters long, occupied the center of the valley. Translucent crystalline carapaces covered their bodies, and twisted spatial spirit runes wound through their flesh.
These monsters were all products of corruption by void power. Their eyes were a lifeless gray-white, and the space within three meters of them trembled constantly, forming ripples like water.
At that moment, a Riftback Beast abruptly tilted its head. Most of its right forelimb instantly turned intangible, penetrating ten meters of rock before it and crossing the intervening space to swipe down at Kandao on its flank.
Its sharp claws tore long, narrow black fissures through space, releasing foul void energy.
"Go intangible and evade to the left. The beast's spatial jump has a windup. Get ready to pin it." Ironhide, the team's support and tactical spotter, quickly issued a warning through Eagle-Headed Demon Perception.
Kandao swung his heavy axe sideways to block. The instant its edge struck the intangible claws, the axe passed straight through the creature's limb. The force of his missed blow sent him staggering half a meter, and foul void energy grazed his shoulder armor, leaving a black mark on his shoulder.
"There's no pattern to its shifts between tangible and intangible. Ordinary physical attacks don't work," Kandao bellowed, quickly retreating out of range.
