Background / History

Before the Abyss

Lin Hao discovered his equipment interface as a child, but found nothing he could equip until the world changed. He studied in Shanghai for several years, worked there for a year after graduation, and rented room 2320 in a shared apartment. His parents and younger sister lived over a thousand kilometers away 1 3 6 7.

His mother once traveled two days by slow train to visit him, bringing an iron pot and two geese. Because his apartment prohibited open-flame cooking, the pot remained unused beneath his bed. After the building fell into the Abyss, it acquired attributes and became his first usable equipment 1.

Apartment Survival

Lin Hao initially survived on stockpiled food and water collected in a collapsible bathtub. Physically unfit and trapped by two crazed roommates, he practiced ruler strikes and defensive footwork before killing them. He then began clearing corridors and searching apartments for supplies and equipment 1 2 6 7.

Zhao Xiaowen supplied his first training equipment and became his closest companion. He rescued Nie Yi but initially refused to take responsibility for her; after reconsidering her character and willingness to work, he accepted her into the group. Yi Feng and Zhou Feng later helped with scavenging, while Lin Hao provided protection and took first choice of valuable equipment 5 10 11 12 16 17.

He killed Brother Ji and his attackers, survived a Madman ambush, and killed Zhong Yong when the latter tried to rally survivors to seize his supplies. Over the following weeks, a small team formed around him, giving him time to train while others collected valuables 14 15 18 19.

Journey to Great Qi

Lin Hao planned to obtain evacuation items in Great Qi and return with them. He departed with Zhao Xiaowen, Nie Yi, and Yi Feng, carrying silver, supplies, and valuables worth over one hundred thousand Wish Power. Other survivors were allowed to follow them through the checkpoint 21.

When Chen Laohu attempted to enforce the fitness club’s control of the Teleportation Point, Lin Hao blocked a compound-bow arrow with a dumbbell-enchanted shield and threw a Molotov cocktail into the clubhouse. His four-person party then teleported together 22.

At Dam Market, he deterred a beggar roadblock by cracking the ground with a stomp. After investigating local factions, he enrolled all four companions at the Wu Family Martial Arts School for protection and self-defense training 24 26.

Martial Training and the Beggar Gang

Lin Hao purchased old training implements carrying martial skills, discovered that their bonuses could stack through his interface, and trained under Wu Deshui. Equipment bonuses, extra meals, medicinal supplements, and baths accelerated his development until he entered Bright Force 27 29 30 35.

After the Beggar Gang abducted Yi Feng and broke his leg while trying to lure Lin Hao out, the school rescued him and obtained compensation. Lin Hao remained dissatisfied. He attacked the Longle Gambling House, burned and collapsed the building, and killed the gang’s three leaders—Liu Da, Liu Ping, and Lu Wu 36 38.

Wu Xin approved of his retaliation but urged him to conceal his involvement. The gang’s destruction triggered fighting over its territory and destabilized Dam Market 40.

Personal Disciple and County Examination Journey

Upon returning from bandit suppression, Wu Deshui accepted Lin Hao as his Personal Disciple. He questioned Lin Hao about the Yanhuang Trade Association and Outworld Demons, then entrusted him with the Meteoric Iron Spear. Further guided training exposed the limits of Lin Hao’s physical foundation while deepening his understanding of Hidden Force 42 43 44.

Lin Hao subsequently left with five fellow disciples for the County Examination, also intending to investigate evacuation supplies. River Pirates ambushed their merchant ship, and his intervention reversed the battle. He pursued a masked Hidden Force archer into the hold and killed him after a difficult close-range fight 45 48 49 50.

The archer proved to be Liu Chengcai, an Incense Master of the Grain Transport Gang. Alarmed by the implications, Lin Hao replaced the hood and disfigured the corpse to conceal its identity before returning to the fighting above 50.

Appearance

  • Height: 178 cm; his slim proportions make a claimed height of 180 cm seem plausible 1.
  • Face: Handsome, initially pale from remaining indoors without sunlight 1.
  • Build: Begins slender and under-exercised. After a month of training, his build resembles the relatively lean Qian Tao rather than the school’s bulkier apprentices 1 28.
  • Clothing: Adopts ancient-style clothing for travel in Great Qi and later wears the school’s loose gray training outfit 21 32.
  • Equipment visibility: Items placed in his interface disappear rather than appearing on the corresponding body part 1 44.

Personality

Lin Hao prioritizes preparation, escape routes, and controlled risks. Before his first fight, he rehearses simple strikes and retreating footwork; while clearing the building, he checks rooms behind him to avoid being surrounded. He recognizes his inexperience and reviews mistakes after dangerous encounters 2 3 6 15.

He considers character more important than ability when choosing companions. Early cooperation does not immediately earn his trust: he conceals his interface, gives others incomplete explanations for his strength, and keeps Yi Feng in a separate room at night. Nevertheless, he gradually becomes willing to build genuine companionship and remembers those who contributed to his survival 12 16 17 18 21.

His generosity is conditional rather than indiscriminate. He will rescue someone or trade useful supplies when doing so does not endanger his interests, but initially rejects obligations he cannot support. Against attackers and people attempting to seize his resources, he is willing to use lethal force; loyalty to Yi Feng also drives his retaliation against the Beggar Gang 9 11 12 18 36 38.

Before the disaster, distrust of romantic motives kept him aloof despite women pursuing him. Shared danger, growing confidence, and Zhao Xiaowen’s care gradually break down that distance. His concern for his missing family remains a reason to stay alive rather than surrender to despair 3 4 12 20.

Abilities & Skills

Equipment Interface

  • Invisible enchantment: Equipped objects transfer their properties to a body part or a weapon he holds without remaining physically visible 1 5.
  • Mass-enhanced attacks: The iron pot, dumbbell, and stone locks let light weapons deliver impacts backed by much heavier objects 2 5 31.
  • Material protection: His right arm becomes iron-like with the pot equipped; clothing and armor similarly extend protective coverage over the relevant body regions 1 5 10 44.
  • Attribute inspection: Concentration reveals an item’s Wish Power value, weight, affixes, skills, and descriptive history 4 5 27 42.
  • Physical requirements: Capacity rises with his overall capabilities. Enchantments still impose stamina costs, handling penalties, and recoil; the 10 kg dumbbell produces an approximately 1 kg penalty during his early training 3 5.

Equipment Points and Replacement Slots

  • Instant switching: Replacement slots allow him to store spare equipment and change setups with a thought 20 31.
  • Accessory expansion: Extra slots accommodate wrist guards, jewelry, belts, and similar items 20.
  • Point costs: Replacement slots cost one point each. Accessory slots cost one, two, four, and progressively more points 20.
  • Weapon storage: Expanded weapon slots function as an inventory, allowing him to bring out weapons when needed or collect captured equipment 41 50.

Skill and Affix Stacking

  • Stacked bonuses: Identical agility modifiers from the two pieces of Yoga Outfit combine, as do martial skills from multiple equipped staffs 5 29.
  • Beyond normal equipment assistance: Ordinary skill equipment becomes redundant once its user reaches the same skill level. Lin Hao’s interface instead continues to add its enchantments to his personal technique 29 33.
  • Training and combat setups: Staff enchantments favor technical control, while Double Stone Locks maximize impact at the cost of greater handling strain 31 32 33 38.
  • Cross-training: Related techniques reinforce one another. Studying Ground-rolling Saber, Twelve Routes Springing Leg, and Eight Gates Staff helps him develop new insights rather than starting each discipline from nothing 41 50.

Crouching Tiger Martial Arts

  • Crouching Tiger Fist: Learns seven Still Stances and thirty-six Moving Stances under Wu Deshui. Whole-body force integration brings him into Bright Force 30 35.
  • Tiger Bursting from the Cage: Uses this basic fist strike during Wu Deshui’s strength test, forcing his master backward despite Transforming Force defenses 43.
  • Crouching Tiger Staff: Uses equipment-assisted Great Achievement technique for conditioning, controlled sparring, and combat against multiple opponents 29 33 34 48.
  • Antelope Hanging Its Horns: Redirects Luo Jing’s attacking momentum and counters into his face 33.
  • Crouching Tiger Spear: The Meteoric Iron Spear grants Great Achievement technique. He applies its thrusting methods through a wooden staff and even treats his arm as a spear when disarmed 44 49.
  • Hidden Force foundation: Successfully projects force through a wooden board once; Qin Sicheng’s advice and Wu Deshui’s hands-on guidance improve his understanding 36 41 44.

Combat Strengths and Limits

  • Reach and crowd control: Combines sweeps, blocks, thrusts, and footwork to prevent several attackers from reaching him simultaneously 48.
  • Weapon-independent power: His ruler and pot lid are not the source of his extraordinary strength. An attacker who steals them gains only ordinary objects, while Lin Hao retains his enchantments 15.
  • Equipment-backed confidence: Infantry Armor and powerful hand enchantments allow him to charge a Hidden Force archer after blocking the initial shot 48.
  • Speed deficit: Liu Chengcai’s Hidden Force-conditioned body gives him superior reflexes, speed, and agility, which technical skill alone cannot fully overcome 49.
  • Incomplete protection: Hidden Force rattles Lin Hao’s internal organs despite armor and arm enchantments, and can penetrate enough to damage his physical staff 50.
  • Higher-realm resistance: Wu Deshui repeatedly disperses or redirects his attacks during guided practice, demonstrating that enchanted mass does not guarantee a solid hit against a Transforming Force expert 44.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Mother’s iron pot — His first functional equipment. Weighs six jin and provides iron-like arm protection and enhanced impact 1.

  • Authentic Yoga Outfit / Natural-Scent Yoga Outfit — Zhao Xiaowen’s white-quality top and trousers. Both enhance training and agility and provide light skin protection 4 5 20.

  • Veteran’s Infantry Armor — Blue-quality, 30 kg armor combining cotton, leather, and iron-plated layers. Its Armored, Arrow Protection, and Triple-Layer Protection affixes improve survival, but do not make him immune to Hidden Force or powerful armor-piercing arrows 42 44 50.
  • Two-Picul Strong Bow — Blue-quality bow with a 122 kg draw weight, Armor-Piercing, Precision, and Mastery Bowstring Force. He cannot yet equip it in Chapter 44; his per-hand limit must rise above 60 kg 44.

  • Water-Cutting Saber · Ghost-Head Saber — Captured from Liu Chengcai. Damage reduces its blue attributes toward green and its Water-Cutting Saber assistance from Mastery toward Proficiency; Lin Hao intends to repair it and study the technique 50.
