She really was better!
While she was beside herself with excitement, Chu Tianxiong walked in carrying a steaming bowl of beef noodles.
When Chu Tianxiong saw his wife standing on the floor, waving her arms and dancing with joy, he jumped in fright. He hurriedly set down the noodles and went over to support her.
"Tianxiong, I'm better!"
Seeing the worry in Chu Tianxiong's eyes, the woman quickly explained, "After I drank the talisman water just now, I felt all my bodily functions recover."
"Then I disconnected the equipment, and nothing went wrong."
More than half an hour had passed since she disconnected the equipment.
Chu Tianxiong recalled what the doctor had said: without the equipment, his wife would last an hour at most.
That hour was almost up now.
Yet his wife had no problems at all. On the contrary, she looked full of life.
"This..."
"Does the talisman water really work?"
Disbelief covered Chu Tianxiong's face. This incredible scene had unfolded right before his eyes, leaving him unable to believe it, yet with no choice but to accept it.
Is this real?
That was the only question left in Chu Tianxiong's mind.
He shook his head, trying to clear it, then looked again at the ashes in the cup. They were undeniably real!
Chapter 20: A True Master!
"A master. He's absolutely a true master."
Chu Tianxiong marveled inwardly. He knew that without Lin Fan today, his wife could never have woken up.
It was nothing short of a medical miracle.
He hurriedly called the doctor over.
After a thorough examination, the doctor confirmed that his wife had recovered.
Meanwhile...
Chu Tianxiong received one phone call after another.
They were all business calls. Every problem his company had been facing was suddenly resolved.
Chu Tianxiong knew that today was about more than just his wife escaping death.
"Never mind the eight thousand I spent today. Even eighty thousand or eight hundred thousand would have been a bargain."
"He pulled my wife back from the brink of death. I'd have gladly paid eight million!"
Only one thought remained in Chu Tianxiong's mind.
The saddest thing in life was watching someone closest to you leave this world.
Chu Tianxiong had almost experienced exactly that.
"No! I have to go back and properly thank Lin Fan. That young man is no ordinary person!"
Chu Tianxiong knew what he needed to do. He asked the doctor to look after his wife.
Then he dashed off toward Lin Fan's shop. Along the way, he drove at top speed, making the people by the roadside think he was a madman.
As Chu Tianxiong raced toward Lin Fan's shop, a bicycle nearly collided with his car, but he never even noticed.
"Are you fucking blind? In a hurry to die?"
The cyclist had just picked up his fallen bicycle from the roadside.
He brushed off the dirt from his fall and turned to curse at Chu Tianxiong, only to discover that the man had sped up even more.
"Damn my luck, running into a lunatic today. I'd better visit a fortune-teller sometime and check how my luck's been lately. If it's bad, I'll just walk. Apparently, even riding a bike isn't safe!"
The cyclist walked away, pushing his bicycle and grumbling, while Chu Tianxiong stopped outside Lin Fan's shop, breathing heavily.
It took two minutes before he felt his heartbeat settle.
He pushed open the door and found Lin Fan drawing talisman after talisman.
"Master, thank you so much."
Chu Tianxiong knelt on the floor. A man did not kneel lightly, but when he thought of how Lin Fan had saved his wife, he knew he could never repay that life-saving debt.
He said sincerely, "Without your talisman today, my wife wouldn't have survived."
Upon hearing this...
Lin Fan merely nodded, his expression unchanged.
"Master, if you're free, I'd like to take you out for a drink. I want to thank you properly. You're my lifesaver."
Lin Fan looked up at Chu Tianxiong and shook his head. "There's no need. We only met by chance, and I can't leave the shop unattended!"
Lin Fan's calm indifference only convinced Chu Tianxiong further that he was a master who stood apart from the mundane world.
Chu Tianxiong thought about how he had looked down on Lin Fan earlier, assuming that a young fortune-teller must be a charlatan.
Yet this young master had truly surpassed his predecessors. The new generation had outdone the old.
All manner of compliments poured from Chu Tianxiong's mouth.
Lin Fan's expression remained unchanged, and he only nodded occasionally to show he was listening. Chu Tianxiong had no idea what he was really thinking.
"Master, your shop seems too small. I own some large storefronts on the next street. If you need one, I can clear it out for you right now!"
Chu Tianxiong realized that money was the only way he could repay him.
The storefronts on the next street rented for as much as two hundred thousand a month.
Now that Lin Fan had saved his life, giving him a shop was only natural.
"There's no need. Large or small, a shop is just a storefront. As long as customers can find me here, that's enough. Besides, fortune-telling has nothing to do with the size of the shop!"
Lin Fan waved his hand. His master had left him this shop, and he would never leave it, no matter what.
Chu Tianxiong nodded repeatedly, then suggested other ways to express his gratitude.
He offered to give Lin Fan a car, or even a house!
He was even willing to give him half his company's shares.
Unfortunately, Lin Fan rejected every offer outright.
His reason for helping had been simple.
It was solely because of Chu Tianxiong's character and virtue.
"You earned this outcome by doing good and accumulating merit. As the saying goes, fortune and misfortune are intertwined. This is all part of your own fate. It doesn't have much to do with me!"
Lin Fan said frankly, "If you were someone who committed all kinds of evil, fate wouldn't have brought us together, and you wouldn't have received a Peace Talisman."
At those words...
Chu Tianxiong froze briefly, then remembered how poorly he had behaved on his last visit.
After all, he had initially assumed Lin Fan was a young charlatan and had even urged him to make an honest man of himself.
Thinking back on it now, he could not help feeling ashamed.
Everything had changed because his wife had completely recovered after drinking the talisman water.
And the moment his wife recovered, his own luck had changed along with it.
"Master Lin, everything you said makes sense. I'll keep doing good and accumulating merit!"
"Since you won't accept money, Master Lin, I'll donate a million to charity in your name!"
Without hesitation, Chu Tianxiong immediately contacted his assistant and donated a million.
Lin Fan remained calm and unruffled. He nodded, approving of Chu Tianxiong's decision.
Suddenly...
A thought flashed through Chu Tianxiong's mind. Since Lin Fan's talismans worked so well, he had to take this opportunity to get a few more.
If something similar happened again, he would have some protection.
After saying a few more words, he saw that Lin Fan was still busy with his work and had no choice but to steel himself and ask.
"Master, could you sell me another Peace Talisman? I'll definitely keep it safe this time!"
"I can pay right now. Sorry for the trouble, Master."
Chu Tianxiong gazed eagerly at the yellow talismans on the table. He did not dare reach out to touch them. If he angered Master Lin, he feared his luck might take another turn for the worse.
"You really want another Peace Talisman? I do have quite a few left!"
As soon as Lin Fan finished speaking, Chu Tianxiong nodded repeatedly, his face breaking into a broad smile. He had already reached into his bag, ready to buy another Peace Talisman the instant Lin Fan agreed.
"Sorry, I'm not selling any for now."
Lin Fan smiled faintly and said, "They go to those destined to receive them. You no longer need a Peace Talisman. Even if I gave you one, you wouldn't have any use for it."
"Come back to my shop if you run into trouble."
Chapter 21: A Rope Always Snaps at Its Weakest Point!
Chu Tianxiong thought about how the Peace Talisman had restored his wife's health even when she was at death's door. "One million. Master, please give me a Peace Talisman!"
After a moment's hesitation, Chu Tianxiong said, "If you feel the Peace Talisman is too precious, Master Lin, another kind of talisman would do."
He thought of his family. A million was neither a huge sum nor a small one.
After all, a Peace Talisman was practically an extra life.
"There's no need. You're already a man blessed with good fortune. If you receive too much, it'll have the opposite effect."
