The afternoon sun shone brightly. Since Chen Shi'an so rarely came to visit, Li Wanyin didn't keep him indoors. She called Xiao Yue along, and the three of them went out for a stroll.
There really wasn't much to do in the countryside, none of the entertainment the city offered, but seen another way, there was plenty of rustic charm and outdoor fun.
Li Wanyin took a small bamboo basket and a little bucket, then led her younger companions out to "hunt for treasure" along the field ridges and creek.
"Are you taking me out to pick wild vegetables and catch fish and shrimp, Sister Wanyin?" Chen Shi'an asked with a smile.
"Yep~ There isn't much to do around here, so I'll show you around. I haven't picked wild vegetables in ages either. I don't recognize a lot of them anymore, and I don't even know if we'll find any. It's fine if we don't. We'll just have a stroll!"
"Sure."
Chen Shi'an naturally agreed with pleasure. "With me here, we should still be able to find something to eat."
"Hahaha, I almost forgot you're a treasure-hunting machine, Shi'an!"
"Sis, why don't you go with Shi'an? I'll stay home and read."
"Oh, come on, we finally have a holiday. Let's go, let's all go!"
Picking wild vegetables and catching fish and shrimp were particular pleasures of the sisters' childhood. Times had changed, after all. Even the poorest village households no longer had to live on wild vegetables and tiny fish and shrimp. It wasn't just city people who enjoyed it; even for country folk, gathering some wild food in their spare time was a rare treat.
Seeing the three heading out to forage, Fat Cat followed them eagerly, striding along the field ridges with a swagger despite that round body.
