The half-month renovation of the Pavarro Funeral Society had ended, and Dinkum and Pike finally had a chance to catch their breath.
That morning,
the two of them sat on little stools outside the funeral society, a bottle of soda in front of each.
"Dinkum, I suddenly realized something..."
"What?"
"If the God of Order ever stops needing me, I won't starve, because I can work as a bricklayer."
"You could go right now. The great God of Order probably wouldn't notice the loss of one insignificant Divine Servant."
"What about you?" Pike asked. "Do you miss how things used to be?"
"I don't know. It might have been more leisurely before, but it was also a kind of torment. We're much busier now, but at least there's a sense of fulfillment."
"So you've fallen in love with bricklaying too!"
Dinkum picked up his soda and took a sip, not bothering to respond to his companion.
Just then, a limousine stopped outside the funeral society.
The female driver wore tight black leather, a nose ring, and a lip ring.
Pike exclaimed, "Oh, she's beautiful!"
When Dinkum failed to react, Pike continued, "I'd submit at her feet, lick her boots, and willingly take her whipping!"
Dinkum sighed. Then the car door opened, and he saw a sophisticated woman in business attire step out. She brushed back her hair, and Dinkum felt as though she had brushed against his heart as well. His mouth immediately went dry.
Then they saw a familiar figure get out of the car.
Both women greeted him affectionately.
The blazing flames that had just ignited in Dinkum and Pike were instantly extinguished.
They raised their soda bottles together, took a long drink, and burped in unison. All their inappropriate thoughts dispersed into the wind with that burp.
