"Young Master Kallen, here is the late-night snack menu."
Mrs. Jenny handed the menu to Kallen. He took it, glanced over it, shook his head, and said:
"That's too much. There are only five of us, a cat, and a dog. We can't eat all that, and it would be wasteful.
How about this: keep only the first five dishes, one serving per person. Remove the alcohol and serve ice water for everyone. That will do."
"Of course, Young Master Kallen." Mrs. Jenny took back the menu, hesitated, then mustered the courage to ask, "Would you like Eunice to come in and arrange things?"
"Could Eunice arrange tomorrow's main meal instead, madam? Tonight's circumstances are a little special. I don't want my fiancée exposed to these matters too early. Please understand."
"No, no, I didn't mean anything else. I was only asking, only asking. It's entirely up to you, Young Master Kallen."
Mrs. Jenny immediately shook her head with a smile, then left the dining room with the menu to instruct the servants to prepare.
Kallen naturally understood what Mrs. Jenny meant. As a mother, she had every right to consider her daughter's interests.
It was just that this simple dinner was somewhat special. Everyone Alfred had led into the Opera House had to keep this secret even from their own families.
As for telling Eunice the secret now, then having Alfred turn her into one of his believers?
That would be insane!
Ventura entered the dining room with his hair still wet after bathing and changing. The moment he saw Kallen in his wheelchair, a smile appeared on his face.
"Looks like you had a great time playing with your friends today."
"Yep."
"Where are those two?"
"They were carried off for treatment."
Kallen nodded, unsurprised by the outcome.
