At dawn, the first ray of sunlight spilled through the window onto his face, like a gentle hand stroking his cheek and waking him.
Kallen opened his eyes and saw Little Kangna touching his face.
"Hungry?"
Hearing Kallen say that, Little Kangna instinctively took two steps back. Clearly, that word still cast a shadow over her.
Seeing this, Kallen said apologetically, "Sorry."
"No, it's fine. I'm not scared of that."
Little Kangna planted her hands on her hips and puffed out her chest.
She wanted to look brave. With her personality, how could she allow herself to have anything she feared?
But that forced pose did not last long, perhaps because she was facing an elder she was close to. Little Kangna lowered her hands and pouted. Fine, she was scared.
Kallen rubbed her head. Little Kangna got up early every day to do her homework, while Kallen went to bed relatively late because he worked late into the night, and consequently rose relatively late too. Yet Little Kangna insisted on having breakfast with him.
So whenever Kallen woke up, he would ask whether she was hungry, worried that getting up too late would leave her underfed and harm her health. After all, she was still growing.
Though Little Kangna worried more about Kallen going hungry than herself. She knew his hunger addiction did not stem from a lack of conventional food, but she attached a simple sentiment to it: if Kallen ate three proper meals a day, perhaps his hunger addiction would not be triggered so easily.
Kallen pressed the bell on the bedside table, then went to wash up. After he came out of the resting room, Xili brought breakfast in.
Checking the time and seeing that it was already midmorning, Kallen only peeled one egg for himself
