Ch. 261Roaring with laughter!

Kallen attended the opening of peace negotiations between the Order God Church and the defeated Reincarnation Church on Dark Moon Island. When the Reincarnation Church demanded that Order withdraw from its occupied holy lands first, the Order delegation responded with laughter.

  • Kallen and the captain exchanged teasing remarks before Neo assembled the squad to escort Bishop Woforen to the conference building.
  • Neo ordered the squad to relax outside the venue, and Order clerics contrasted their casual manner with the solemn Reincarnation Church delegation.
  • Bishop Woforen, Kallen, Memphis, and Leon entered the grand hall, where Cardinal Bishop Kreid led the Order delegation and Gatekeeper Romir Simorson led the Reincarnation delegation.
  • Clan Leader Vina declared Dark Moon Island neutral and opened the meeting, after which representatives of other churches joined as observers.
  • The Reincarnation Church demanded that Order withdraw unconditionally from its occupied holy lands, and the Order delegation burst into laughter.

Ch. 262The crazy captain

Neo infiltrated a secret gathering of Light Remnants on Dark Moon Island and learned they planned to raid the Ancient Marsh Pool to awaken Duolons. Recognizing their plan would fail without the Contract Conch, Neo revealed that it was buried in Bernard's Graveyard and urged them to attack there instead.

  • Neo followed hidden marks through Dark Moon Island and passed a test at a merfolk establishment to gain access to a secret Light Remnant gathering.
  • Neo met a masked man at the gathering and learned that Light Remnants were being hunted after an attempted assassination of General Taufman.
  • Mr. Sebas announced that the Light Remnants planned to exploit the island's weakened guard and awaken Duolons at the Ancient Marsh Pool.
  • Neo realized that awakening Duolons required the Contract Conch, which was buried with Bernard, and shouted that the group should attack Bernard's Graveyard.

Ch. 263The best of friends!

Kallen watched the Order God Church pressure the defeated Reincarnation Church into accepting a preliminary peace agreement, then learned that Neo had helped the Light Remnants plan to raid Bernard’s tomb. Neo revealed that Miss Paul had asked Kallen to demolish the grave, and he ended by recalling Bernard and Jennifer’s connection to her.

  • Bishop Woforen declared negotiations over until Reincarnation agreed to hear Order’s demands, and Cardinal Kreid warned that the war could resume.
  • Woforen presented eighteen demands, and the churches reached a preliminary agreement on a sacred site, reparations, student exchanges, trial places, and revised mythology.
  • Kallen returned to the courtyard with Memphis while Woforen, Leon, and Laure rode back in a carriage.
  • Neo told Kallen he had met with the Light Remnants, explained how they could awaken Duolons using Bernard’s Contract Conch, and admitted he had planned their raid on Bernard’s tomb.
  • Neo said he would warn Dark Moon about the plot, then revealed that Miss Paul had asked Kallen to demolish Bernard’s grave.
  • Neo recounted how Jennifer introduced him to Bernard and said Jennifer had called Miss Paul the best friend she had ever had.

Ch. 264A soak in the hot springs

Kallen and the captain planned to retrieve the Contract Conch from Bernard’s tomb, while Kallen later joined Peige and Fanny at a private hot spring. Ophelia arrived to speak with him, but after drinking water from the cabinet she collapsed, warning that the poison had been meant for Kallen.

  • Kallen and the captain decided to act at the Palace of Remembrance after the Light Remnants drew the Dark Moon Clan’s attention, with Kallen recruiting Memphis and the captain seeking help from Reincarnation Church Clerics.
  • Kallen went to the private hot spring with Peige and Fanny, and Ophelia arrived after the women left them alone together.
  • Ophelia and Kallen awkwardly discussed the negotiations, then joked together as she sat beside the pool.
  • Ophelia drank water from a glass, spat black blood, and warned Kallen that the poison was intended for him.

Ch. 265A bloodstained family (part one)

Kallen saved Ophelia from a contaminating toxin by using his blood to expel its insect source, then uncovered an assassination attempt aimed at him. The Dark Moon Clan identified Prince Dante as the supposed mastermind, and General Taufman executed him before kicking his head to Kallen.

  • Four disguised attendants attacked Kallen and Ophelia, but Kallen killed them or stopped them from surviving to be questioned.
  • Ophelia’s condition worsened as a contaminating toxin spread through her, so Kallen had her drink his blood; a pollution insect emerged from her mouth and burst after entering his wound.
  • Ophelia ordered the incident investigated, and Kallen found an insect egg hidden in the base of her glass.
  • The captain awakened an attacker’s corpse and tortured him until he named Prince Dante as the one who ordered the attack.
  • Clan Leader Wiener confronted Dante, who denied ordering the poisoning but admitted his feelings for Ophelia; General Taufman beheaded him and kicked his head to Kallen.

Ch. 266A bloodstained family (part two)

Taufman exposed Elder Majo’s plot to assassinate Kallen and moved against the princes and conspirators, leaving Dark Moon Island’s power struggle violently transformed. Vina and Taufman later revealed that the poison had been a Curse Insect intended to test Kallen’s bloodline, but Ophelia had not been contaminated.

  • Taufman presented Dante’s head guard as evidence that Elder Majo had arranged the assassination attempt and planned to frame Dante.
  • Taufman took Vina’s Clan Leader Token, ordered the Third Prince to accompany them, and had Dante’s head brought along as they went to confront the First Prince.
  • Taufman killed the First Prince and confronted Elder Majo, while two elders intervened and Taufman joined the fight before Kallen and Ophelia left.
  • Ophelia leaned on Kallen at the hotel, apologized, and asked him not to blame her family; Kallen wondered whether she had guessed who administered the poison.
  • Vina and Taufman discussed their plan to purge the Elder Council and revealed that the Curse Insect could kill people with Dark Moon blood, but Ophelia had not been contaminated.

Ch. 267A pair's journey

Vina and Taufman analyzed the failed Curse Insects and concluded that Phileas might now serve Kallen, while fearing that Ophelia had broken the curse by drinking Kallen’s blood. Kallen and Neo discussed the coming ceremony at the Palace of Remembrance, where Neo planned to publicly proclaim the return of Light.

  • Vina and Taufman suspected Phileas had manipulated events as Kallen’s servant and agreed not to question Ophelia or interfere with her relationship with Kallen.
  • Vina feared Ophelia would reveal that Kallen’s blood had broken the curse, and he and Taufman decided to keep the possibility secret and leave the young couple alone.
  • Kallen told Neo that the insects were Curse Insects created from Phileas’s hatred of the Dark Moon Clan and said he did not regret saving Ophelia with his blood.
  • Neo said the clan leader and general might honor Kallen for surviving the curse, then confirmed he would proceed with his plan at the Palace of Remembrance.
  • Neo declared that Duolons would announce Light’s return before the Orthodox Churches, while Kallen and Neo traded good-night remarks and went to rest.

Ch. 268Treasure!

Kallen stayed with Ophelia while she recovered, and Bishop Woforen discussed the dangerous Gate of Reincarnation and the church’s plans for Leon and Laure. At the Palace of Remembrance, Taufman met the captain after a failed Light Remnant attack, and the captain proposed searching Duolons for the Phileas Family’s hidden treasures.

  • Kallen stayed in the hotel with Ophelia while she slept, then shared a meal and a walk with her after she woke.
  • Bishop Woforen told Leon and Laure that he would nominate them for the Gate of Reincarnation assessment, and Leon agreed to invite Kallen and Neo to dinner.
  • Taufman learned that the Dark Moon warriors had crushed the Light Remnants’ attack on the Palace of Remembrance and ordered the guards to remain on alert.
  • The captain met Taufman at the palace and suggested they both keep their identities secret while claiming allegiance to the Light.
  • The captain told Taufman that Duolons carried the Phileas Family’s legacy, possibly including divine artifacts, and Taufman agreed to investigate.

Ch. 269The fight was on

Neo and Taufman lured pursuing Reincarnation Church members toward the Palace of Remembrance, where Mr. Eisen's planted formation exploded and triggered a battle between them and the Dark Moon guards. In the confusion, Neo and Taufman prepared to slip inside and take the Contract Conch.

  • Mr. Eisen followed his note's instructions, setting up a formation and burying himself beneath a grass-covered patch until he heard the trigger phrase.
  • Pat went to a private room, drugged himself, and tormented a mermaid before Neo stole his wallet and fled, injuring Pat and one of his pursuers along the way.
  • Neo and Taufman escaped in a carriage, drawing Reincarnation Church members after them and heading toward the Palace of Remembrance.
  • Neo and Taufman hid in a flower bed as Dark Moon guards moved to block their pursuers, and they planned to enter the Palace and take the Contract Conch during a fight.
  • When the Dark Moon guard chief called the area restricted, Mr. Eisen triggered his formation, blasting Reincarnation clerics and causing both sides to attack.

Ch. 270Wake up, old friend!

Neo’s attempt to open Bernard’s coffin was interrupted by Taufman, but the captain escaped and sounded the Contract Conch without holding it. As Kallen and Ophelia sat by the Ancient Marsh Pool, the ground suddenly roared and the mountain collapsed.

  • Neo tricked Taufman with a nest of ladybugs and slipped away to the Palace of Remembrance, where he dismantled the barrier protecting Bernard’s coffin.
  • Taufman attacked Neo as the coffin opened, and an Evil Spirit infected Taufman, forcing him to cut off his right arm and seal it.
  • Taufman refused to let Neo awaken Duolons, while Neo retreated using a Concealment Spell Art scroll as Dark Moon Guards arrived.
  • Neo returned and sounded the Contract Conch by making vibrations travel through the open coffin, then told the Ancient Marsh Pool, “It’s time to wake up, old friend.”
  • Kallen and Ophelia sat together at the Ancient Marsh Pool, where Ophelia spoke of her feelings for Kallen before a roar shook the ground and the mountain collapsed.

Ch. 271Revenge

Ophelia and Kallen escaped Duolons as the awakened giant turtle’s peaceful light gave way to rage over Phileas’s betrayal, and it began advancing toward Dark Moon Island’s towns. As the churches prepared to respond, Neo watched the beast approach and apologized to the fleeing townspeople, saying the light could no longer be seen.

  • Kallen pulled Ophelia away from Duolons’s head and carried her through the air as the giant turtle rose from the earth and awakened.
  • Duolons sensed Phileas’s curse, turned blood-red, and began destroying everything in its path as it moved toward the towns.
  • Ophelia urged Kallen to stop Duolons from reaching the towns, and Kallen reassured her that the Order God Church would intervene.
  • Gatekeeper Romir watched Duolons with Xiding and Peide, while Taufman abandoned his pursuit of the captain to protect the towns.
  • Neo appeared on a hillside, conducted an eerie piece as Duolons approached, and apologized to the fleeing townspeople because the light could no longer be seen.

Ch. 272Attack of the giant beast

Duolons charged toward Dark Moon Island’s town, while Taufman and the elders risked their lives to reach its head and set up a formation. As Taufman soothed the beast with the power of light, Neo used Phileas’s spiritual imprint to warn Duolons that Taufman had betrayed the light.

  • Kallen and Ophelia watched as Taufman gathered the Dark Moon Elders and guards to stop Duolons before it reached the town.
  • Taufman led the elders through Duolons’s blood mist and onto its body, where they faced flying scales and sweeping whiskers as they escorted Qimal toward its head.
  • Qimal began setting up a destructive formation on Duolons’s head while the Dark Moon Army formed ranks and the Order God Church waited nearby instead of intervening.
  • Taufman released the power of light against Duolons’s head, calming its movements as Qimal continued building the formation.
  • Neo activated Phileas’s spiritual imprint on Duolons’s shell and warned the beast that Taufman had betrayed the light.

Ch. 273Unstoppable!

Taufman and Elder Qimal's formation only briefly stopped Duolons, while Phileas revealed that the dying beast had become a massive source of pollution. As Duolons reached the town's outskirts, it halted, and Phileas said it could not bear to destroy the island it had once helped build.

  • Taufman ordered Elder Qimal to activate the unfinished formation, and its blast injured them and stopped Duolons temporarily.
  • Ophelia and Kallen confronted the captain, whose phantom revealed his revenge plan and kept them from leaving by threatening to detonate insect nests.
  • Duolons's magma attack devastated the Dark Moon Army, and Cardinal Kreid ordered Bishop Rodina to reorganize the island's defenses as the army retreated.
  • The Order God Church prepared to stop Duolons, but its decaying body and accumulated death energy made attacking it risk spreading catastrophic pollution across the island.
  • Phileas revealed that Duolons had been near death when he sealed it and had awakened it so it could see the island again; after breaking through the final defenses, Duolons stopped at the town's outskirts.

Ch. 274Praise the Light!

Duolons wept and turned away from Dark Moon Island, while Neo confronted the truth about his struggle with Phileas and let the giant turtle leave with its pollution. Neo remained on shore as Phileas departed with their companions, ending with Neo watching him praise the Light.

  • Duolons stopped at the town and shed tears, while Taufman sensed the grief in the rain and the spirits of Phileas’s companions appeared around him.
  • Phileas told Neo that he had died long ago and that Neo had been fighting his own memories and guilt, but Neo rejected the explanation and urged Duolons to advance.
  • Phileas took control of Neo’s body, drew an Evil Spirit out of Taufman, and transferred it to Duolons before Taufman left the turtle with Qimal.
  • Neo sent Duolons back out to sea, while Kreid ordered Rodina to monitor the beast and expose Bernard’s betrayal to Dark Moon Island.
  • Phileas explained to Neo that he had chosen to follow the Light despite retaining his hatred, then said goodbye and left with his companions as Duolons sailed away.
  • Neo watched Phileas standing on Duolons’s head and praising the Light, then remarked that he no longer feared losing himself because he was already lost.

Ch. 275Revenge!

Neo summoned the Anavas ancestor, who insisted that Phileas was only another part of Neo and that Neo himself had abandoned revenge. Kallen took Bernard’s corpse to the Stone Stele for a revenge ceremony, but discovered the corpses in the pit had lost their Spiritual Power and apparently set out on a new voyage.

  • Neo summoned the Anavas ancestor with a bloodline ritual, and the ancestor claimed Phileas had never existed as a separate consciousness.
  • Neo insisted Phileas existed and said Snake Island could prove it.
  • Kallen stole Bernard’s corpse from the Palace of Remembrance and brought it to the Bernard Hotel.
  • Kallen recruited Mr. Eisen and Richard to help transport Bernard through a teleportation array to the Stone Stele.
  • Kallen found that the corpses in the Corpse Pit had lost their Spiritual Power and concluded they had set out on a new long voyage.

Ch. 276Surprise!

Kallen reflected on the people who had once built Dark Moon Island, replaced Bernard’s taunting inscription with a message of renewed departure, and prepared to awaken Bernard’s preserved body. When the Awakening Art failed, Kallen concluded that Bernard was still alive.

  • Kallen scraped Bernard’s words off the stele and engraved, “Hey, we're setting sail again!”
  • Kallen considered whether he could follow the example of Phileas and his grandfather Dis, then resolved to awaken Bernard and make him experience the humiliation himself.
  • Mr. Eisen covered Bernard’s body with suppression formations inside Ms. Jennifer’s coffin, while Richard fetched food and helped prepare.
  • Kallen used Order-Awakening on Bernard, but the spell drew no spiritual power and appeared to fail.
  • Kallen laughed with excitement and declared that Bernard was still alive.

Ch. 277Awakening!

Kallen deduced that Bernard had survived for a century in suspended animation with the help of a white symbiotic insect, then used his blood to wake the insect and gave it to Richard. After Richard left, Kallen confronted Bernard, who opened his eyes.

  • Kallen and Mr. Eisen realized Bernard was alive and suspected he had deliberately entered prolonged dormancy to remain preserved in the Palace of Remembrance.
  • Kallen deduced that Bernard had swallowed an insect originally bred to induce dormancy, and that it might be awakened by blood.
  • Kallen sent Mr. Eisen and Richard outside, then cut his palm and fed his blood to Bernard.
  • A white insect crawled from Bernard's mouth, healed Kallen's wound with silk, and appeared to seek a new host.
  • Kallen gave the insect to Richard and told him to have Mr. Eisen examine it before swallowing it.
  • After Richard left, Kallen knocked on Bernard's coffin and asked whether he would keep pretending to sleep, and Bernard opened his eyes.

Ch. 278Judgment!

Kallen confronted Bernard over his massacre of Phileas and the Light Remnants, using the truth about Puer and the island to expose Bernard’s guilt. After recognizing the danger posed by forces that might destroy those who challenge gods, Kallen invoked Light’s authority to judge Bernard, leaving him stunned.

  • Kallen restrained Bernard with the formations and questioned him, while Bernard probed Kallen through conversation about Dark Moon Island, Paul, and Kallen’s relationship with Puer.
  • Kallen revealed that Puer was alive and living with him, and Bernard reacted with fear when he realized she might learn about his fabricated romance and the fate of Jennifer.
  • Bernard defended killing Phileas and the Light Remnants as necessary to protect Dark Moon Island, but Kallen said they had been kind and would have left peacefully.
  • Kallen burned Bernard’s soul when he interrupted, then explained that Phileas had been his comrade and that learning of the massacre had made him fear a similar fate.
  • Kallen considered whether a god had guided Bernard to kill Phileas and the others, then prepared to pass judgment on Bernard in the name of Order.
  • After Bernard objected that Order’s procedures did not permit the judgment, Kallen dismissed his Inquisitor’s robes and manifested Light Clerical Robes, declaring he would judge Bernard in the name of Light.

Ch. 279The torment of Light and Order

Kallen tortured Bernard with a Light flame until Bernard revealed that Light had ordered him to kill Phileas and the others in exchange for a place among Light’s elders when the gods descended. After Bernard’s soul dissipated, Kallen used Order-Awakening to revive him and began the torture again.

  • Bernard realized Kallen had brought him to a trial whose outcome was already decided, and he offered his treasures and knowledge in exchange for his life.
  • Kallen set a Light flame burning on Bernard’s chest and taunted him about Miss Jennifer and Puer while refusing to promise mercy.
  • Bernard confessed that Light had guided him to kill Phileas and the others, promising that Dark Moon would merge into Light when the gods descended and that Bernard would become an elder.
  • Bernard died as the flame consumed his soul, and Kallen used Order-Awakening to revive him despite the immense power required.
  • Kallen lit the Stone Lamp with black Order Fire, poured the flames onto Bernard’s chest, and told him they would continue.

Ch. 280I want it all!

Kallen tortured Bernard until he confessed that the Silent Ones had recruited him to kill Phileas and promised him divine favor, then discovered that Bernard’s eyes held a second life. After Awakening Bernard again, Kallen claimed the Eyes of the Dark Moon and declared he wanted everything Bernard had.

  • Kallen burned Bernard with the flames of Order and ignored his pleas until Bernard begged to die.
  • Bernard confessed that the Silent Ones, an ancient organization with powerful clerics of Light and Eternity, had persuaded him to betray Phileas by promising him the God of Light’s guidance and a place in a new Church of Light.
  • Bernard revealed that the Silent Ones had promised to guide him at an altar on Heiji Island in 1735, and Kallen realized the meeting was only three years away.
  • Kallen burned Bernard until his remaining Spiritual Power was exhausted, then left the island before returning two hours later to attempt Awakening on the corpse.
  • Kallen’s Awakening succeeded when Spiritual Power emerged from Bernard’s eyes, revealing that they contained a soul and another life; Kallen recognized them as the Eyes of the Dark Moon and claimed them, along with Miss Paul.
