Seeing that Pei Ye said nothing, she added, "Have you forgotten? When you tried to chase me back then, this was what I used to stop you."

Pei Ye looked at her expressionlessly.

At the Goddess of the Luo River Palace, both of them had looked quite clean. She had just risen from her bedchamber, and though Pei Ye had killed Zhang Mengqiu, no blood had splashed onto him.

Now, however, both had disheveled hair, equally pale faces, and equally bedraggled appearances. Both had lost their shoes, and their clothes were stained with fresh and old blood.

Li Xizhou smiled at him again.

"You needn't worry too much about General Chan. The Mirage Realm is a small world unto itself. Just as your divine name cannot unfold here, a Sky Tower cannot connect to their world either." Without waiting for him to ask-and Pei Ye did not look particularly inclined to ask-she continued, "General Chan is something of a leading figure in the Northern Army, one of the Six Pillar Generals under Yongbei. He came from Buddhism and joined the Northern Expedition thirty years ago, remaining ever since. He reached the Sky Tower at least twelve years ago. He's probably somewhere between the sixth and seventh levels now."

She paused, then added, "But the Mirage Realm has been unstable these past few days. General Chan has spent the last three days on the Mirage Dragon’s Horn putting this world in order. Once he succeeds, we'll lose our foothold."

"...What is our foothold?"

"My 'Merfolk Silk,' of course. This is the Mirage Dragon's rule, and the Mirage Realm's rule too. Until the true sovereign takes the throne, everyone must abide by it," Li Xizhou said. "That's why Yong Ji can only use the Scale Demons to wear us down for now."
