The six elders sat around the conference room's round table.
Even Li, who had just returned from the instance, was among them.
First Elder Sadis stared at him with a grim expression and said sternly:
"The Holy Lord is extremely displeased with your actions this time!"
"If you didn't possess his Demon God bloodline, he would have had you executed long ago!"
Li's face was hidden beneath his hood, making his expression impossible to read as the First Elder berated him.
He merely explained in a calm voice, "I'm sorry. There were simply too many unexpected developments in this instance..."
Before he could finish, however, the First Elder waved a hand to cut him off. "You don't need to explain. We already know."
"The ruby necklace we gave you was meant to let us observe what happened inside."
At those words, Li's body gave a noticeable little shudder, though he quickly regained his composure.
He remembered how his subordinate had presented that ruby necklace, calling it a treasure blessed by the Holy Lord.
Yet from beginning to end, he had never seen the necklace do anything.
Only now did he truly understand.
So that thing was a surveillance device!
That old bastard Sadis had never trusted him from the start!
He had been afraid Li would try something behind his back in the instance!
