Lin Luo followed the Drunkard Ghost out of the morgue.
But he had clearly underestimated the Drunkard Ghost's speed.
In the blink of an eye, the Drunkard Ghost vanished like a phantom.
Although he knew how powerful the Drunkard Ghost was, he couldn't pin all his hopes on a ghost of unknown origin.
Lin Luo sprang into action, patrolling the area around the morgue.
He tried to find the three missing corpses.
But after making a wide circuit, Lin Luo found no clues. Just as he was heading back to the morgue, he suddenly heard the sound of eerie hopping behind him.
Lin Luo's expression grew grave.
It seemed he had run into one of the corpses.
The most important thing now was to seal that corpse. Otherwise, once it absorbed the essence of moonlight and evolved into a zombie, he would be in serious trouble.
To prevent that, Lin Luo immediately swung his hand back, lashing the Blood Rope at the corpse behind him.
The blow was immensely powerful.
It sent the entire corpse flying.
Lin Luo took the opportunity to turn around. On closer inspection, he saw that it was a male corpse.
The male corpse's face was blue, and it let out a whimpering growl.
Fortunately, its fangs hadn't fully grown in.
Otherwise, if it became a zombie, even Lin Luo's Blood Rope wouldn't be able to break through its tough defenses.
Without another word, Lin Luo lashed at its forehead before it could get back up.
The forehead was the focal point of a corpse's transformation.
As long as he dispersed the baleful energy in its forehead...
It would no longer be able to transform and would become nothing more than a lifeless corpse again.
But the male corpse moved more nimbly than Lin Luo had expected.
It actually dodged the Blood Rope and lunged at Lin Luo instead.
At that critical moment...
The male corpse seemed to come under the gaze of an utterly terrifying monster, leaving it too intimidated to move.
"Tonight is the Ghost Festival. You can't underestimate corpses coming to life, either."
As expected, the one who had overpowered the male corpse was the Drunkard Ghost.
At the same time, the Drunkard Ghost appeared beside Lin Luo in a flash, carrying two corpses.
"All right, I've done you your favor. We're even now."
The Drunkard Ghost tossed the sealed corpses at Lin Luo's feet.
At the sight, Lin Luo couldn't help marveling. The corpses the Drunkard Ghost had dealt with were clearly much more terrifying.
One had a bluish-purple face and sharp fangs.
It was a genuine zombie.
Yet the Drunkard Ghost had dealt with it effortlessly.
It was simply unbelievable.
"Thank you, sir."
Lin Luo spoke from the heart.
"Spare me the pleasantries. If you want to repay me, bring more liquor tomorrow."
The Drunkard Ghost loved liquor more than life itself and wanted nothing more than to drink his fill.
"No problem. I'll bring you the liquor tomorrow."
Lin Luo readily agreed.
Of all the ghosts he had encountered, the Drunkard Ghost was by far the strongest.
If he could secure the Drunkard Ghost's backing...
Surviving seven days in Yellow Springs Hospital would be no problem at all.
Pleased to see that Lin Luo knew what to do, the Drunkard Ghost nodded in satisfaction and slapped the male corpse.
The blow instantly dispersed the male corpse's baleful energy.
It became a lifeless corpse once more.
Lin Luo carried the three corpses back one at a time, placed them on the morgue beds in order, and covered them with white sheets.
"Finally, that trouble is taken care of."
Lin Luo quietly breathed a sigh of relief. He had finally avoided being punished by the director ghost.
But the Drunkard Ghost's next words made his expression turn grave.
"Kid, this wasn't just corpses rising because of the Ghost Festival. You've offended a ghost, and they're deliberately making trouble for you."
Those words put Lin Luo under immense pressure.
As the saying went, an arrow from the shadows was hard to guard against.
And in this perilous world of horrors, being targeted by a ghost meant he could lose his life at any moment.
"Sir, were the ghosts causing trouble a man and a woman?"
Lin Luo couldn't help asking.
"No, just a little ghost who's had his skin peeled off."
The Drunkard Ghost spoke dismissively, as though the Flaying Ghost were an insignificant nobody.
But his words immediately filled Lin Luo with apprehension.
It seemed the Flaying Ghost had held a grudge against him since he collected his staff uniform.
"Remember to bring liquor when you come see me tomorrow."
Before leaving, the Drunkard Ghost made sure to remind Lin Luo.
After the Drunkard Ghost left, Lin Luo began his night shift.
To prevent any more corpses from rising, Lin Luo covered them securely with the white sheets. Only after checking repeatedly that everything was in order did he leave the morgue.
His duties on this shift were really just to patrol the area around the morgue.
As long as he didn't encounter any ghosts, it would only cost him some time.
But tonight, Lin Luo's luck was clearly rather poor.
After making a circuit, Lin Luo gradually noticed the temperature dropping around him, and an eerie, terrifying presence closed in.
"One problem after another."
Lin Luo sighed heavily, swinging the Blood Rope and lashing it behind him.
This time, however, Lin Luo's surprise attack failed. The ghost behind him dodged it.
"Little worm, you're too slow. I saw through your move long ago."
That sinister voice sounded familiar. It belonged to the Flaying Ghost.
After dodging the attack, the Flaying Ghost raised his sharp nails and clawed at Lin Luo.
Lin Luo scrambled desperately out of the way, but the claws still caught him, tearing his skin and flesh.
"You're pretty good at running for your life, but you won't be so lucky next time."
The Flaying Ghost gave a vicious grin and tried to attack again.
Fortunately, Lin Luo struck first, raising the Blood Rope and lashing it at the Flaying Ghost.
Even the Flaying Ghost had to avoid the Blood Rope's power.
As the Flaying Ghost retreated, Lin Luo hurriedly put some distance between them.
That infuriated the Flaying Ghost, who closed in again.
But with the Blood Rope, a ghost artifact, Lin Luo barely managed to keep up a running battle with the Flaying Ghost.
Throughout the fight, Lin Luo forced himself to remain calm and consider why the Flaying Ghost was able to attack him.
Every ghost in this world of horrors was bound by rules.
As long as he figured out the rule governing the Flaying Ghost's attacks, he could escape this crisis.
"Little worm, you can't escape. I'll bite your head off soon enough."
Even as he attacked Lin Luo, the Flaying Ghost didn't forget to play mind games.
If Lin Luo buckled under the pressure and exposed an opening, the Flaying Ghost would tear him to pieces.
Lin Luo didn't answer. Instead, he swung the Blood Rope to force the Flaying Ghost back.
At the same time, Lin Luo noticed that the Flaying Ghost had weakened. The Blood Rope actually struck him, knocking flesh from his face.
"Little worm, you must have a death wish! I'll make you taste suffering worse than death!"
Wounded by the lash, the Flaying Ghost flew into a rage and roared through gritted teeth.
But this time, rather than silently enduring his bluster, Lin Luo gave a knowing smile.
"Not necessarily. You're the only one who's going to die."
Through careful analysis, Lin Luo had already discovered two of the Flaying Ghost's weaknesses.
If he exploited them properly, the Flaying Ghost wouldn't just fail to kill him-he might not even escape with his own ghostly life!
Seeing Lin Luo's confidence, the Flaying Ghost was rattled too. Masking his fear with a fierce facade, he snapped, "You lowly little worm, stop bluffing!"
