Entry into Yellow Springs Hospital

Zhang Zhihao is among the fifty-four classmates branded with the Horror Curse and transported into the Horror Game. He awakens at Yellow Springs Hospital alongside Lin Luo, Liu Yanyan, and Zhang Xiaoli. The first-floor Director Ghost assigns them seven days of nursing-aide work 1.

At the storeroom, Zhang Zhihao is the first to approach the uniforms. The Flaying Ghost appears behind him and demands skin in exchange for clothing, reducing him to terrified retreat. Lin Luo intervenes and secures uniforms for all four students. Zhang Zhihao and Zhang Xiaoli are assigned to Ward 104 2 3.

After his first shift, Zhang Zhihao returns with an ear missing. A patient’s complaint and bad review cost him his entire day’s wages. He demands Ghost Coins from Lin Luo on the grounds that they are classmates, but Lin Luo refuses 5 6.

Ghost Patronage and Escalating Hostility

Zhang Zhihao subsequently buys food with a hundred-Ghost-Coin note and boasts that he earns an additional five hundred Ghost Coins each day. The arrival of a lecherous middle-aged ghost reveals that he has been exchanging sexual services for money and protection 7 8.

When Zhang Xiaoli mocks the arrangement, Zhang Zhihao slaps her and asks his ghost lover to kill her. He also threatens Lin Luo and demands his Ghost Coins. Lin Luo slaps him, prompting the middle-aged ghost to attack; the two Chef Ghosts intervene and force the ghost to withdraw with Zhang Zhihao 8.

Zhang Zhihao eagerly anticipates Lin Luo’s death during the morgue patrol and reacts with disbelief when he returns unharmed. His own condition deteriorates: he appears pale and depleted, and a later patient nearly drains his blood 13 15 25.

Failed Treatment and Half-Ghost Transformation

After Zhang Zhihao questions the Director Ghost’s decision to reward Lin Luo, the director tears off and eats one of his arms. Despite this injury, Zhang Zhihao volunteers to treat the fourth patient in Ward 103, hoping to outperform Lin Luo and escape his worsening circumstances. The assignment ends with the director throwing his blood-soaked body onto the cafeteria floor 25 26.

Zhang Zhihao survives long enough to see Lin Luo return unharmed from treating the same patient. After the others leave, ghosts drawn by his blood attack him. He reappears at breakfast the next morning as a half-ghost, attacks Zhang Xiaoli, and threatens Lin Luo. Lin Luo overwhelms him with ghost power, causing him to vomit black blood as a ghost’s face emerges on his body 28.

Continued Hospital Service

In the VIP ward, Zhang Zhihao receives a positive review from a zombie after it drinks enough of his blood to relieve its toothache. His half-ghost constitution keeps him alive, although the blood loss leaves him severely weakened 29 30.

Later, he needs clean work clothes to satisfy a fastidious patient, but the Flaying Ghost demands organs instead of accepting payment. Zhang Zhihao ultimately buys a set from Lin Luo for 600 Ghost Coins, leaving himself fifty for other expenses 36.

By his last documented appearance, hospital work has left him physically and mentally exhausted. He no longer dares report Lin Luo’s late arrival, but remains intensely jealous when the Director Ghost excuses Lin Luo from work to accompany Ghost Loli. His hatred makes his ghost power unstable 48.

Personality

Zhang Zhihao’s hostility toward Lin Luo is driven by jealousy and wounded pride. He treats his classmate’s rewards, food, protection, and survival as personal affronts, repeatedly hoping that hospital duties will kill or cripple him. Even after obtaining a positive review himself, he immediately uses it to provoke Lin Luo 6 13 25 30.

His aggression depends heavily on the balance of power. Protected by his ghost lover, he threatens classmates with murder; confronted by stronger ghosts, he retreats, apologizes, or begs. Repeated setbacks eventually make him cautious about openly challenging Lin Luo, without reducing his resentment 8 25 36 48.

He is also tenacious and willing to gamble with his life. Rather than continue deteriorating under ordinary assignments, he volunteers for a dangerous patient. That determination becomes increasingly entangled with his half-ghost condition, which gives him predatory appetites and makes anger a threat to his remaining self-control 25 28 30.
