Background / History
Lin Zhe’s parents established the Fortunate Inn with more than two million yuan raised through relatives, friends, and bank loans. During prosperous years, it earned around 500,000 yuan in annual net profit. Lin Guodong managed guest reception and the inn’s affairs, while Han Li operated its rear-courtyard dining business 1 12.
A tourism slump left the Mount Sanqing Scenic Area closed for more than 300 days in a year. Despite substantial rent reductions, the inn operated at a loss for three years and required more than 200,000 yuan to keep running. Cost-cutting led to bedding being reused between guests, falling wages, and staff departures. After his parents were hospitalized, Lin Zhe took charge and closed the dining operation because of understaffing 1 12.
The turnaround began when Lin Zhe obtained Cleansing Talismans from his weekly check-in reward. These eliminated the sanitation problems that had generated complaints and damaged earlier publicity. Later rewards supplied special chickens whose eggs became the foundation of the reopened canteen. By Chapter 49, less than six months after taking over, Lin Zhe had surpassed his parents’ peak daily revenue and staff numbers 2 3 4 9 12 49.
Location and Layout
- Main building: A two-story reinforced-concrete structure with a wooden-looking exterior and vintage interior decoration. Its apparent solid-wood construction is only a finish 36.

- Front courtyard: Rose beds, lawn, banyan trees, benches, a roughly two-meter-wide pebble path, and four antique-style lampposts 4 7.
- Ground floor: Lobby, reception desk, and lounge seating used by guests waiting for food or eating meals 3 34 44.
- Shared facilities: Both floors have communal restrooms and bathing facilities; the inn also has a hot-water room 4 18.
- Back courtyard: Separate from the main building and reached through a bamboo grove. It contains the kitchen and is not open to the public 9 49.
- Kitchen: Initially described as a makeshift structure using steel and corrugated roofing, with equipment retained from Han Li’s former dining operation 9 12.

Good Fortune Canteen
Origins and Reopening
The canteen originally supplied breakfast, lunch, and dinner to inn guests under Han Li’s management. Its simple menu included steamed buns, flatbreads, handmade dumplings, egg fried rice, egg noodles, and stir-fried rice vermicelli. Chapter 12 calls the former operation the Fortunate Appetite dining hall; subsequent passages use Good Fortune Canteen 12 15.
Lin Zhe reopened the business around egg fried rice made with his rewarded chickens’ eggs and appointed Lin Xiaomeng manager. Its existing hygiene permit and completed paperwork allowed it to resume business legally without obtaining a new set of approvals 12 15.
Menu and Service
| Offering | Documented details |
|---|---|
| Soul-Stirring Egg Fried Rice | Launch price of 29.9 yuan per serving; the canteen’s signature dish 12 15 33. |
| Soul-Snatching Fried Rice Noodles | Added during menu expansion and praised by returning guests 34 42. |
| Soul-Snatching Egg Chow Mein | One of the four established Soul-Stirring Series main dishes 42. |
| Soul-Snatching Three-Delicacy Dumplings | Priced at 29.9 yuan per portion; sold more than twenty portions at lunch on introduction 42. |
| Seaweed and egg soup | Offered free with a documented breakfast service; made with ordinary market-bought eggs 34. |
- Despite being called a canteen or dining hall, the inn has no dedicated dining room. Guests usually eat in the ground-floor lobby or take food to their rooms 34.
- Customers staying at other inns can also order food at reception 37 43.
- Lin Xiaomeng controls menu decisions and supervises the kitchen staff 19 32 33.
- Demand frequently exhausts the supply of special eggs, causing the signature dishes to sell out early 32 42 43 45.
- The Soul-Stirring Series can achieve a margin of around 70 percent 43.
Special Resources
Cleansing Talismans
- Lin Zhe’s first check-in reward supplies thirty talismans capable of instantly cleaning rooms and belongings 2.
- They work only within the Mount Sanqing Scenic Area, making the inn an eligible location 2.
- Their effects remove dust, cobwebs, stains, and kitchen grease; the initial treatment also eliminates the inn’s damp, moldy conditions 2 3 38.
- Lin Zhe conserves the limited supply because vacated rooms often remain clean enough for ordinary housekeeping 7 18.
- He conceals their use by attributing the transformation to professional deep cleaning 4 5.
Rewarded Chickens and Eggs
- The second documented livestock reward provides one rooster and ninety-nine hens, which Lin Zhe retrieves in the backyard 9.
- Their eggs possess Flavor and Nutrition attributes at different levels. Some chickens are intelligent enough to obey commands 9.
- These eggs distinguish the canteen’s food, but the flock initially limits sales to roughly eighty or ninety portions a day 32.
- Staff meals also use attribute-bearing eggs; Lin Zhe rejects a proposal to reserve ordinary eggs for employees 36.
Peach and Plum Business
- Lin Zhe begins taking peach orders through the inn using Li Ying’s wholesale supply. Guest orders exceed two hundred jin by early evening on the first documented sales day 45.
- Little Peach Peach can convert up to 250 kilograms of peaches daily into an equal weight of plums with three added quality levels 48.
- The resulting Fortune-Blessed Peach Plums are named after the inn. Their selling price must remain at least 40 yuan per kilogram to preserve their quality 48.
- Lin Zhe calculates a potential additional 10,000 yuan in daily revenue from full-capacity conversion; this is a projection, not recorded sales 49.
