After Wukong had brought the Twenty-Eight Mansions down to the mortal realm, he hurried to the Netherworld to seek Mahamayuri Bodhisattva.
At the time, Mahamayuri Bodhisattva was discussing the Dharma with Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva in Emerald Cloud Palace.
When Wukong arrived, he requested an audience with the two and explained the situation.
Mahamayuri Bodhisattva naturally agreed to help.
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva said, "That demon escaped last time. I fear he may escape again this time. I have several Netherworld Ghost Messengers and Asura Generals here. I shall have them bring some Ghost Soldiers and accompany you, Great Sage. That should make the plan foolproof."
Wukong said joyfully, "Thank you, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva!"
Thus, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva dispatched sixteen Netherworld Ghost Messengers and four Asura Generals, leading several thousand Ghost Soldiers, to accompany Wukong to subdue the demons.
Before long, they arrived at their destination.
With the Twenty-Eight Mansions providing support in the sky and the Netherworld Ghost Generals assisting on the ground, there was truly no road to heaven and no gate into the earth.
Mahamayuri Bodhisattva stood in midair while Wukong descended to call at the entrance.
Inside the cave, Six-Eared Macaque had already heard all the gods' arrangements.
Ao Tu summoned the Little Demons and said, "Many immortals have come to attack our cave abode. Your cultivation is too low; these immortals are beyond your ability to handle. Staying would only burden me. Once the fighting starts, scatter and head west. There is a Banana Cave on Green Cloud Mountain, where the Mighty Bull Demon King lives. Go seek refuge with him."
When the Little Demons heard this, they all began to weep, unwilling to leave.
The Frog Spirit said, "Great King, you are the finest of kings. Though we have little cultivation and are poor followers, we would never abandon you."
