By the time they returned to the Special Investigation Bureau, Song Zhixia's expression was almost icy.
Xu Zhihan had barely stepped out of the car when he paused.
Lu Wenchuan stood beside him and had just raised a hand when Xu Zhihan shot him a cold look.
"Don't help me."
Lu Wenchuan held up his hands. "I haven't touched you."
"You wanted to."
"Fine, guilty as charged."
Xu Zhihan ignored him and headed for the medical wing on his own. But he walked more slowly than usual, and his face was paler. The golden mark on his palm still burned in waves, as though something were burrowing into his bones.
The sensation was unfamiliar.
Back when he possessed his divine spark, he had never felt its weight. Now he had recovered only a single fragment, yet this body seemed unable to bear it. Even breathing was becoming difficult.
Song Zhixia followed behind him. Seeing his condition, she said coldly, "You'd better lie down right now."
"I can walk," Xu Zhihan said.
"I didn't ask whether you could walk," Song Zhixia replied.
Xu Zhihan briefly paused and glanced at her.
Song Zhixia stared back.
Three seconds later, Xu Zhihan looked away and entered the Medical Room.
Behind him, Lu Wenchuan gave a quiet chuckle.
Xu Zhihan didn't turn around. "What are you laughing at?"
Lu Wenchuan immediately went quiet. "Nothing."
The moment Song Zhixia connected the monitor, the readings on its screen went haywire.
His mental fluctuations surged and dipped, as though two forces were tearing them back and forth. The members of the Medical Team turned pale at the sight, even falling a beat behind in recording the readings.
Song Zhixia frowned. "The divinity fragment is rejecting your body."
Xu Zhihan leaned back on the hospital bed, his voice cool.
