"My son, can you fight for me?"
Lianshan Xin believed in brothers fighting tigers together and fathers and sons marching into battle.
Maitreya had no answer.
He could fight for him, but he did not want to.
"My son, you're not afraid, are you? Can't you defeat a Great Grandmaster above your realm using my current strength?" Lianshan Xin goaded him.
Maitreya chuckled. "Let me fight this fellow with your current strength, and within the time it takes an incense stick to burn, I can leave him without a scrap of flesh or bone."
Lianshan Xin believed Maitreya was telling the truth.
Although Maitreya was not as strong as Shakyamuni Buddha, could hardly match the Unborn Venerable Mother, and was even further removed from the Dao Integration experts on the Daoist side, Maitreya was still Maitreya.
Dealing with a mere Yan Wangchuan was certainly nothing to him.
"My son, have you heard the saying about fathers and sons marching into battle?" Lianshan Xin asked.
Maitreya rolled his eyes. "I don't want to be your father."
Lianshan Xin thought this son he had picked up was making progress.
"You're no match for Yan Wangchuan. Run," Maitreya advised. "We're not far from Western Capital City. As long as you make enough commotion along the way and hold out long enough, Yan Wangchuan won't dare chase you all the way there."
They had ridden here at an unhurried pace, so they had not traveled very far.
If Lianshan Xin fled for his life, he did indeed have a twenty percent chance of escaping alive.
