He couldn't possibly remember every plot point from the original story.

Yun Ming and Ya Li soon understood what had happened. They knew about that child Wu Changkong's troubles. No one had expected the Evil Soul Masters to have the nerve to plant an undercover agent in Shrek Academy.
Ya Li couldn't help holding Jiang Mingyuan a little tighter. An eccentric old man like Zhuo Shi, red-faced and with the veins in his neck bulging, could be quite overwhelming for a child. She was afraid he would frighten Little Mingyuan.
Jiang Mingyuan's thoughts raced. He vaguely remembered that Wu Changkong did indeed have a teacher. But he couldn't be the one to spill the beans.
Logically speaking, Jiang Mingyuan knew nothing about the situation, and an old man had suddenly come over to ask about his homeroom teacher, who treated him very well.
