Zetsu was only halfway through his sentence when his expression abruptly changed. The firm ground beneath his feet had vanished into thin air.
The smile on Gekkō Raito's face deepened.
"While you were rambling on, did you really think I was just standing here watching?"
As Gekkō Raito finished speaking, thick white smoke abruptly rose all around them. Billowing clouds surged out like underground fountains, swallowing the entire stretch of ground in an instant.
In other words, Cloud Release had completely sealed off the ground, turning it into an extension of the sky.
Gekkō Raito looked down at Black and White Zetsu from above.
"There. The stage is set. Please begin your escape act."
Gekkō Raito smiled mockingly.
He merely raised a hand, and the moisture in the air instantly condensed. Two razor-sharp ice spikes appeared out of nowhere and pierced Zetsu's body with lightning speed.
Zetsu did not feel much pain. What he felt more was terror welling up from the depths of his soul.
The reason he had dared to appear so brazenly to stall for time was his Mayfly Technique, which allowed him to merge into the earth and escape at any moment.
He had never imagined that this man would be so meticulous, setting a trap specifically for him from the very first second he appeared.
"I noticed a slimy gaze on my back earlier. Sure enough, you were behind it."
Gekkō Raito smiled casually. "You managed to evade my senses and spy on me in secret. I have to admit, your ability is something."
Hearing this, Black Zetsu finally understood why Gekkō Raito had let Konan leave.
His earlier spying had exposed his whereabouts and brought trouble down on his own head.
