Background / History

The Blood Demon House was recorded in Dorian Gray’s notes, which established that it had existed for at least several hundred years. A decoded passage described the Blood Demon possessing Jefferin, who turned into wind and escaped. Dorian declined to pursue him 9 13.

Ten years before Xia Shou’s investigation, the house appeared in woodland outside Jiangbo City. Following recurring Blood Demon incidents in the outside world, the Containment Bureau dispatched S-Rank Investigator Edward. Three days later, Edward and the villa disappeared, and the incidents ceased. Edward’s Life Lamp remained lit throughout his disappearance 6.

When the house returned, the Bureau sent Second-Level Cleaner Zhou Hongjie and five First-Level Cleaners inside. All six lost contact. Su Weiyu subsequently reported that the Blood Demon had slaughtered the earlier entrants and that her weapon, Boy Cutter, could not defeat it 6 10.

Appearance

  • Body: An enormous humanoid formed entirely from liquid blood; Xia Shou likened its size at close range to a small mountain 12 16.
  • Limbs: Slender, elongated arms and legs resembling bamboo poles 12.
  • Hands: Broad palms ending in five huge, elongated fingers as sharp as guillotine blades 12.
  • Surroundings: Its approach is accompanied by an overpowering smell of blood, reddened light, blood filaments, and scarlet mist 11 12 15.

Behavior

The Blood Demon actively hunts rather than waiting for intruders to approach. Its bloody scent serves as a trap throughout the house, stirring frenzied desires that apparently allow it to locate prey 9 15.

Despite its power, Xia Shou judged it to lack intelligence in combat. Its attacks followed recognizable instinctive sequences, including a low sweep after drawing an arm backward and a downward slam after raising one overhead 16 17.

After seeing the mutilated but still-living Su Weiyu suspended in blood threads, Xia Shou suspected that it sometimes preserved interesting prey as trophies rather than killing them immediately. The Death Record Notebook later identified the desire within its undigested remnants as “slaughter other creatures” 12 13 50.

Abilities & Skills

Anomaly Level

Its exact Anomaly Level was not confirmed. Assessments differed between the field combatants and the Bureau’s later intelligence.

Assessment Basis
Likely higher than Level Four The Bureau inferred its strength from its recorded possession of Jefferin, whose associated contained object, Jefferin’s Blue Tear Ring, was Level Four 13.
At least two levels above the Tamer The Level Three Tamer’s assessment during their confrontation 15.
Most likely above Four, approaching Five The Execution Squad’s estimate from decoded records and the house’s anomaly fluctuations; they also expected possession to lower its level 18.

Liquid Body and Regeneration

The Blood Demon can rapidly reconstitute its liquid body. The Tamer warned that ordinary physical attacks were ineffective because even a completely scattered body could recover immediately 15.

  • Low physical resistance: Xia Shou found its body easy to deform once his attacks could affect it; its survival depended more on regeneration than toughness 16.
  • Replacement limbs: It could create new limbs even while its wounds were prevented from healing 17.
  • Blood-volume depletion: Under Xia Shou’s combined Everlasting Wound and Spirit Body Strike, severed portions remained separated. Forming replacement limbs reduced the blood available to its remaining body 17.
  • Sight deprivation: Alice successfully blinded it during the battle 16.

Blood Weapons

The Blood Demon turns blood shed from its body into solid, razor-sharp weapons 15 16.

  • Crystal barrages: Blood solidifies in flight into densely packed spikes or blades 15 16.
  • Spirit penetration: Its crystals erupted inside the Tamer’s Black Panther despite the creature being a Grudge Spirit 15.
  • Claws: Its liquid fingers cut through the church’s carved surfaces more easily than alloy blades 16.
  • Blood threads: It suspended the gravely mutilated Su Weiyu in blood filaments during Xia Shou’s first exploration 12.
  • Blood Spear Forest: A stomp releases a spreading tide of blood that becomes a forest of crystalline spears. This attack killed Xia Shou, the Tamer, and Su Weiyu in a timeline subsequently erased by rewind 16.
  • Head-dependent filaments: Destroying its head caused the hairlike blood filaments filling the church to become ordinary liquid 17.

Frenzy and Prey Detection

Its presence affects both emotions and the blood within nearby bodies 12 15 16.

  • Its scent provokes frenzied desires; Su Weiyu believed those desires exposed her location to it 15.
  • Nearby victims become acutely aware of their blood vessels and experience itching or restless blood 12 15.
  • Its roar made Xia Shou’s blood seem ready to boil 16.
  • Su Weiyu’s anti-meme did not protect her from its attacks, although Xia Shou initially remained uncertain why 10 11.

Parasitic Possession

Dorian Gray’s decoded notes describe possession as an occupation of the soul’s spiritual status, not a physical transformation. The Bureau treated this ability as a potential means of escape from the house 13.

  • Preferred hosts: Powerful psychics are more likely to attract it because they can bear its excessively evil desire 13.
  • Initial concealment: Hosts retain their appearance, memories, and personality 13.
  • Progressive decay: Their bodies slowly rot; eating the flesh and blood of their own kind prevents further deterioration 13.
  • Outside-world immortality: According to the notes, the Blood Demon can be destroyed only inside its house. What escapes through a host is its evil desire, described as immortal outside 13.
  • Possible weakening: Later Bureau intelligence indicated that its Anomaly Level would likely drop after taking a host 18.

Power Obtained Through Devouring

Xia Shou consumed the entire Blood Demon but initially digested only 50% of it. The following skills were obtained from its remains; they are not presented as named techniques used by the Blood Demon itself 19.

Skill Effect Cost or restriction
Heal Wounds with Blood Uses Xia Shou’s blood to fill wounds and rebuild otherwise nonregenerating tissue. During blood loss, digested food can be converted directly into blood 19. Increases his Deep-Dive Level 19.
Blood Rampage Manipulates blood within a certain range. Its Limit-Breaking Level of 1 raises activation priority above Xia Shou’s own Anomaly Level 19. Controlling a host’s blood requires his Anomaly Level to be at least one level higher. It has no immediate cost, but deeper understanding attracts trials from “He” 19.

Devouring the Blood Demon also supplied buoyancy in the root sea, raising Xia Shou from 1,301 meters to approximately 1,100 meters and greatly slowing his descent 17 19. The notebook later explained that consuming Blood God-blessed creatures helps disguise him as one of the god’s kin 50.

Relationships

  • Blood God — Source of its blessing, not the Blood Demon itself. The god rules the Sea of Unceasing Blood below 1,300 meters 50.
  • Idrisu — Another mythical creature blessed by the Blood God. The notebook proposed opposing Idrisu’s desire to heal with the Blood Demon remnants’ desire to slaughter, weakening both wills 50.
  • Jefferin — Recorded host who escaped by turning into wind 13.
  • Edward — Investigator whose entry preceded the house’s ten-year disappearance. His fate remained unresolved after the Blood Demon’s death 6 22.
  • Xia Shou — Its eventual killer and consumer, who combined abilities inherited from its victims to overcome it 16 17 19.
  • Su Weiyu — Survived an earlier encounter and later lured it away from an immobilized Xia Shou, providing time crucial to his eventual victory 10 12 20.
  • Tamer and Little Black — Overwhelmed opponents whose final intervention diverted its blood projectiles during Xia Shou’s successful fight 15 16 17.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Blood Demon House Investigation

  • First exploration: Su Weiyu drew the Blood Demon away while Xia Shou devoured a difficult corpse. It returned with her gravely mutilated; Xia Shou subsequently had Alice kill him to trigger a rewind 12 13.
  • Failed confrontation: Xia Shou used Peak Perfection in Solitude to strengthen his accumulated abilities and suppress its regeneration. Blood Spear Forest nevertheless killed the combatants, triggering another rewind 16.
  • Successful confrontation: Using knowledge of its attack patterns, Xia Shou warned Su Weiyu to flee and directed the Tamer to higher ground. He depleted its body through repeated dismemberment, shattered half of it with a decisive punch, and battered the remainder into a pool of blood 17.

Aftermath and Lingering Connections

  • Mistaken host identification: Falling anomaly readings led the Bureau to suspect possession. The Execution Squad confronted Xia Shou on exit, believing him to be the Blood Demon’s host 18 19 20.
  • Concealed victory: Xia Shou initially credited the Tamer to hide his devouring ability. The Bureau later attributed the kill to the anti-memetic entity provisionally named Transparent Man 20 23.
  • House restored: The Blood Demon House returned to normal, but Edward remained missing with his Life Lamp still burning 22.
  • Dream appearances: Liu Guangyao dreamed of a black-clad man and a blonde maid cutting up and consuming the Blood Demon. These visions prompted Xia Shou to question the nature of his shadow and the creature’s connection to the Blood God 26 27.
  • Later revelation: The Death Record Notebook confirmed that the Blood Demon was a blessed mythical creature, not an avatar of the Blood God, and identified a potential use for its undigested remnants against Idrisu 50.
