[Two male leads + healing without angst + an imaginative system novel]
"Hey! Jiang Chiyan!"
Noisy.
So damn noisy!
"Jiang Chiyan, wake up!"
"Could you stop sleeping at the reception? Go home if you want to sleep!"
It was a girl's voice.
As she spoke, she shook him like she had Parkinson's.
Shaken awake, Jiang Chiyan opened his eyes.
His foxlike eyes were heavy with sleep.
His head felt foggy.
Jiang Chiyan rubbed his temples, a bitter smile tugging at his lips.
He had dreamed of Xiao Cheng again...
He and Xiao Cheng had broken up six years ago.
The more devoted he had been back then, the more agonizing the pain was now.
Every time he got drunk, Xiao Cheng inevitably appeared in his dreams.
Jiang Chiyan stared blankly, lost in thought.
His younger cousin, Su Jing, on the other hand, looked eager for gossip.
Su Jing waved a hand in front of his face. "What were you dreaming about? You were grinning from ear to ear."
Jiang Chiyan snapped out of it and lied with a perfectly straight face.
"I dreamed my legal fees went from ten thousand yuan an hour to ten thousand a minute."
Su Jing laughed. "You're awfully greedy, Counselor Jiang."
The cousins sat close together, looking like a young couple whispering in each other's ears.
The sight...
Was witnessed in its entirety by a man nearby, whose refined, scholarly bearing contrasted with the obsessive look in his eyes.
He narrowed his eyes as he watched Jiang Chiyan practically pressing against the woman.
Jiang Chiyan, is this what you meant six years ago...
When you said we'd be together forever?
Your promises are worthless!
Xiao Cheng unconsciously tightened his grip on his wineglass.
Crack-
The stemmed glass shattered, splashing red wine all over the floor.
The server beside him jumped and gave Xiao Cheng a timid glance.
"Sorry." He apologized to the server like a gentleman.
Then.
He shook the blood and red wine off his fingertips and walked out, expressionless.
Perhaps the cuts from the broken glass hurt too much.
Xiao Cheng's eyes reddened.
After Xiao Cheng left.
The air around them felt terribly cold.
An unsettling atmosphere hung over the entire reception.
Amid the crowd.
Jiang Chiyan abruptly rose to his feet, as though he had sensed something.
Seemingly aware of something, he turned toward the direction Xiao Cheng had left in.
There was no one there.
Nothing at all.
Jiang Chiyan stared blankly for a long while before looking away.
"You're spacing out again," Su Jing said helplessly.
"Where were you just now?"
"Are you still not over... your first love?"
The smile in Jiang Chiyan's eyes faded. "We never even held hands. It's not that I can't get over him. It's just possessiveness."
They never even held hands???
Su Jing didn't believe him. "But you were together. You... never touched him?"
Her cousin...
Was headstrong and arrogant, sharp-tongued and black-hearted.
He'd actually behaved himself after sweet-talking someone into dating him??
Jiang Chiyan chuckled, smiling. "We dated for less than five days in total. He was so delicate that I worried about him. How could I bear to?"
"Holy shit!" Su Jing was genuinely surprised. She swallowed. "Then... why did you break up??"
Jiang Chiyan said nothing.
A darkness and irritation he couldn't suppress settled over his features.
He undid the top two buttons of his shirt, picked up his phone, and left the reception hall to use the restroom.
The moment he entered the restroom.
Jiang Chiyan saw a man who was both familiar and unfamiliar.
That man had a lovely name.
Xiao Cheng.
Reading notes:
1. Both leads are physically and emotionally untouched. A sweet, angst-free story with two powerful, formidable leads, imaginative twists, and a system. No melodramatic clichés or Mary Sues.
