(Feng Ling Nine Heavens: Please trust me. There is no mindless, melodramatic angst, and the ending is sweet.)
"Let him in," Rong Yuheng said.
The steward froze for a moment.
Four hours earlier...
The crown prince's younger brother, Second Prince Rong Chi, had come in person to invite the prince to a banquet at the imperial palace.
Yet the prince... had not even let Rong Chi through the door.
He had been unbelievably arrogant and cold.
Seeing that the steward had not moved,
Rong Yuheng frowned and sat back in his wheelchair, as though both his legs really were crippled. "Never mind. I'll go see him myself."
The steward hurried forward and respectfully pushed Rong Yuheng's wheelchair toward the gates of the Regent's Palace.
Outside the Regent's Palace.
"Your Highness, the prince regent won't possibly see you," Second Prince Rong Chi said. "He's cold and violent by nature. He left me standing here for four whole hours without even offering me a cup of tea."
Sitting in his carriage, Rong Che turned a page of the military treatise in his hands without speaking.
Resentment flashed through Rong Chi's eyes.
Why had Rong Che been the crown prince from the moment he was born?
Why hadn't Rong Che died in a foreign land during his eighteen years as a hostage?
He would slaughter Rong Che.
As long as Rong Che died, he, an adopted son, would be the Rong Kingdom's sole heir.
Suppressing the hatred in his heart, Rong Chi stood beside Rong Che's carriage and said with a smile, "Your Highness, the prince regent hates bright yellow more than anything. Wearing your bright yellow crown prince's court robes will anger him. He might just have you tied up and thrown out."
The prince regent held overwhelming power at court.
