Qing Chen spun around, the Blood River God-Slaying Spear held across his body. Then he saw two people.
A man and a woman walked up the narrow path below the cliff.
The man was very young, looking only in his early twenties. He wore blue robes and had a handsome, refined face.
The woman was even younger, looking only sixteen. She wore a dress with a simple floral pattern, her hair tied loosely behind her head. Her face was round, with a little baby fat.
The two walked uphill, chatting and laughing.
"Brother, slow down! There are restrictions here. We can't use spiritual power!" the girl called out, panting.
"It's a Lineage trial. We can't afford to be slow. Who told you to eat until you got so fat? Watch out, or they'll cut your medicinal pills again." The young man looked back with a smile, but did not stop walking.
"I'm not fat!" The girl puffed out her cheeks and chased after him. "Yun Zhao isn't fat at all! Hmph, if Father and Mother were still here, those people wouldn't dare do this."
The young man smiled, stopped, and held out his hand.
The girl grabbed his hand and used it to pull herself a few steps higher, finally reaching the top of the cliff and completing the trial. She plopped down on the grass, gasping for breath.
"I'm exhausted..."
The young man stood at the cliff's edge, gazing at the distant mountains, and fell silent for a while.
"Yun Zhao."
"Hmm?"
"What do you think our path of cultivation will be like?"
The girl tilted her head and thought for a moment. "I don't know. But as long as you're with me, anything is fine."
The young man turned back, looked at her, and smiled.
