Faneng Temple simply had too many treasures.
At first, Xin Bairen and Xu Jiuling had ordered their men to sort everything into Storage Rings by category: Dharma Artifacts with Dharma Artifacts, Spirit Pills with Spirit Pills, Spirit Stones with Spirit Stones, while scriptures, account books, and the like were sealed separately.
But once the Vinaya Hall, merit treasury, rear-mountain spirit granaries, and the restricted vault beneath the Śarīra pagoda had been pried open one after another, everyone realized that this approach was far too slow and far too petty.
Faneng Temple had entrenched itself in Yunzhou for several thousand years, its incense offerings continuing without end, its land deeds and mine veins spread throughout the province. How could a mere hundred thousand Storage Rings possibly hold it all?
The underground spirit granaries behind the merit treasury alone were packed with mountains of first-, second-, and third-tier Spirit Rice, sealed under Buddhist Sect restrictions.
Every grain was crystalline as jade, its surface wreathed in faint Buddha Light and spiritual qi. The rice was of excellent quality, and each granary held enough to feed a force of ten thousand Dao Soldiers for several years.
And they had discovered nearly fifty such granaries in all!
Not to mention the enormous thousand-year-old spiritwood, Buddhist gold and copper, protector puppets, gigantic bronze bells, vajra stone pillars, lotus-platform Dharma seats, incense talisman bricks condensed from incense and fire prayer power, and all manner of dismantled gilt-gold demon-suppressing chains... there were simply too many spiritual materials and treasures.
Some of these things could indeed be placed inside Storage Rings, but they were too bulky, their restrictions too heavy, and most were bound up with the Buddhist Sect's incense and fire prayer power. Forcing them inside would not only waste time but could easily damage their spirituality.
