He intervened when Yue Lingshan struggled to congratulate the newly promoted Qing Chen. Qing Chen responded by crushing him with Foundation Establishment pressure and publicly mocking his low-grade spiritual root and sixth-layer cultivation. Yue Lingshan loved Lin Changsheng, and her father later threatened his life to force her to accept an arrangement to become Qing Chen’s Dao Companion 179 185.

After becoming Hidden Spirit Island’s lord, Qing Chen requisitioned Lin Changsheng, sent him against water bandits, and abducted him during the mission. Soul-seizing interrogation exposed his secrets, including his discovery of a hidden Qin Household treasury. Qing Chen also identified his rare Netherworld Spirit Body and planted the Dao Heart Seed Demon in him 218 219.

Establishing the Demon Lotus Sect

Under Qing Chen’s patronage, Lin Changsheng controlled the Azure Dragon Stronghold’s water bandits and helped establish the Demon Lotus Sect in the shadows. He recruited children with cultivation aptitude from among beggars—and deliberately turned other suitable children into beggars and orphans. Qing Chen supplied resources and personally reinforced the recruits’ belief in the Devil Master’s supremacy 218.

Lin Changsheng subsequently searched hundreds of villages and towns with the Inspector’s personnel, assisted by Gao Yuliang and Deng Ziyue. His early intelligence work also covered the Yue Household, its conflict with the Chang Household, and the surviving descendants of Great Qin 219 223 265.

His investigation of the Qin descendants led to ambushes against the Sun and Liu households. After capturing the Sun party, he used an invitation issued in the Second Elder’s name to lure the Liu leadership into a restricting formation. The suspicious destruction of the Qin Household ultimately drew out the Foundation Establishment cultivator Cao Yuan 326 327 328.

Sect Administrator and King Yanluo

As Deputy Branch Master and Blood Sun Devil Envoy, Lin Changsheng exercised substantial authority over Mystic Lotus Island. He supervised covert infiltration along the borders of the Condensed Jade Sect, Impermanence Sect, and Blackwood Island, assigning Duan Tianya, Han Shi, and Ren Carefree to carry out the work 425.

He also became Ghostly Manor’s King Yanluo. During negotiations for an attack on Earth Pass Island, he presented Ghostly Manor as a surviving branch of the Duer Sect and demonstrated a secret formation technique to substantiate that identity 517 518 519 532.

His campaigns included the assault on Di Huaiyi’s forces and the attack on the Li Household of Xuanchi Island. Magnetic Origin Mountain

Acting under Qing Chen’s orders, Lin Changsheng spent nearly twenty years on Primordial Magnetic Origin Mountain, withdrawing from routine sect administration to cultivate and fight magnetic beasts. The mountain suppressed most conventional techniques and rendered his usual spirit artifacts unusable, but its environment helped crystallize his magic power 626 694.

Repeated battles with a Primordial Magnetism Three-Horned Rhino improved his close-combat skills. Defeating it and absorbing its magnetic sand brought him into the Pseudo-Core realm; continued cultivation eventually enabled Golden Core formation 627 628 694.

Despite that breakthrough, he lacked a suitable magic treasure and barely escaped a third-tier Magnetic Crystal Demon Leopard. While recovering, he detected Chang Yao’s Soul-Extracting Gu signal and followed it toward the Duer inheritance affair involving Chang Ping’an. Qing Chen later rewarded his contribution with magic treasures and ordered him to keep the Primordial Magnetism Annihilation Great Art secret 693 694 707 730 731.

Military and Provincial Service

In Great Jin, Lin Changsheng commanded a two-thousand-cultivator battalion during the Army Competition. His scouts, concealed posts, and formation links provided a clear picture of the opposing battalion’s movements, allowing him to time a concentrated formation-breaking attack 808 811.

He subsequently enforced Qing Chen’s military discipline, helped stabilize five conquered counties, and continued directing troops when Qing Chen raced ahead to Fallen Soul Slope. By the Qiongzhou administration period, he held principal sixth-rank immortal office and helped command and drill one hundred thousand cultivators. His role as chief executioner in a major confiscation case made his name widely feared 829 862 969 994.

His responsibilities extended beyond battlefield command: his men executed thirty-nine spies during the examination crisis, and Qing Chen later entrusted him with constructing the vast Cangming Island city, mountain, and palace intended for the Nascent Soul Ceremony 938 1051.

Nascent Soul and Vice Sect Leadership

Qing Chen instructed Lin Changsheng to prepare for Nascent Soul formation and supplied treasures including the Yin Marrow Bone Pearl and Soul-Suppressing Bell. After succeeding, Lin Changsheng received further cultivation methods, the Yinkui Corpse Thunder Palm, and the Azure-Scale Dagger-Axe 1106 1107 1170 1171.

Recognizing more than two hundred years of service, Qing Chen named him the Longevity Devil Lord and then Vice Sect Leader. Toward Qing Chen, he is intensely reverent and highly sensitive to displeasure. His loyalty began under demonic control, but persisted after the demon seal was extracted: its influence lingered, he understood Qing Chen’s potential, and he sincerely regarded him as his master. He is ambitious, including jealousy toward Chang Ping’an’s early recognition as a named disciple, but increasingly channels that ambition into dependable administration. Over time, he learns to endure insults, judge political threats, and strike decisively when the sect’s interests require it.
