Background / History

Yao Chen rose from a humble branch of the Yao Clan to become the continent's foremost alchemist. He was framed and expelled from his clan despite his talent, then later suffered the betrayal of his first disciple, Han Feng. His body was destroyed, but his powerful soul endured within the Bone Flame Ring alongside the Bone Spirit Cold Flame. 144 181 201 214

While dormant in the ring, Yao Chen absorbed Xiao Yan's Dou Qi for three years to restore himself. During that time, he observed Xiao Yan's unusually strong innate soul power, maturing temperament, and potential as an alchemist, leading him to reserve Xiao Yan as a prospective disciple. 7

Hai Bodong discovered the ring's secret after feeding it purified Seven Illusory Azure Spirit Birth. Yao Chen manifested as a soul body, identified himself as Venerable Yao, and began sharing his knowledge of the Central Continent, the Eight Ancient Clans, alchemy, and cultivation. 7

His relationship with Hai Bodong quickly became that of master and disciple. He refined an Emperor Pill for Hai Bodong, accepted him first as a nominal disciple, and later as a personal disciple.
