Although Lucas still did not know how to embed a Magic Beast Core in a magic staff, he was rather fond of them. There was no harm in collecting more, and he had studied some formations in his previous life. Though he did not know whether those formations would work in this world, he still intended to give them a try.
He said to his father, "I really like these things. Bring me any you get the chance to, will you?"
Although Abuda did not know why his son wanted so many of them, he said, "Sure. They're useless to our tribe anyway. We used to throw them away. Since you want them, there's no problem giving them all to you!"
After settling the matter with his father, Lucas reminded him again, "Don't forget my dagger."
Abuda nodded in agreement and indicated that he had not forgotten.
Lucas's mother, Selina, asked then, "What did we lose in this Wind Wolf attack?"
Abuda sighed before saying, "A lot of Wind Wolves came this time. The tribe lost over a dozen first-rank Long-Tusked Boars and three third-rank Mighty Savage Bulls."
Selina sighed too, then said, "Losing the Long-Tusked Boars is one thing, but the Mighty Savage Bulls do most of the tribe's plowing."
Abuda said as he ate, "There was nothing we could do. The wolves dragged away four of the Long-Tusked Boars. The tribe will probably have you clean up the remaining ones tomorrow and dry the meat for winter."
Selina nodded as well. Lucas did not join their discussion. But remembering that he had an earth affinity, he asked, "What attributes did those dead magic beasts have?"
His father, Abuda, asked with a bewildered expression, "What's an attribute?"
The question left Lucas at a loss too. Only then did he remember that magic did not yet exist at this point in time, so naturally there was no distinction between the attributes of the elements of the world. Besides, his father did not even recognize Magic Beast Cores, so he was even less likely to know that magic beasts had different attributes.
Lucas did not intend to explain magic beast attributes to his father, either. After all, he had no way to explain how he knew such things. He said, "Those shiny crystals you gave me-the ones you gave me today were pale green, weren't they? I wanted to know what color the crystals in the tribe's dead magic beasts were."
After hearing his son's explanation, Abuda did not give it much thought. He answered directly, "Long-Tusked Boars don't have those crystals, and the Mighty Savage Bulls probably don't either. I'll take a look tomorrow. If there are any, I'll bring them all to you!"
Lucas nodded, then said, "I'm full. I'm going to bed."
With that, he went to his little room. After resting for a short while, he began to regulate his breathing. The last time he entered a meditative state, he had already learned that his innate affinity was most likely earth.
Now he wanted to try again and see whether he could sense the wind attribute. Unfortunately, it had no effect whatsoever. He could not perceive wind elements, so naturally he could not sense the energy within this wind-attribute Magic Beast Core either!
After thinking it over, Lucas gave up and began practicing his Chaos Azure Lotus Visualization Method. Gradually, as Lucas visualized, his spiritual power began to drain. The motes of earth-element light corresponding to his innate affinity also began entering his body, which passively absorbed them.
Although he had no method for absorbing magic, even mages who did not exercise could passively strengthen themselves by absorbing magic, raising their physiques to roughly the level of a Fourth Rank Warrior.
Even though Lucas had lived two lives, successfully undergone Three-element Soul Mutation, and possessed greater spiritual power than ordinary people, he was still an ordinary person who had not cultivated. After two hours, his spiritual power was nearly exhausted, and he had no choice but to stop meditating. Forcing himself to continue would only intensify the drain on his spiritual power. In severe cases, it might even damage his soul, which would not be worth it!
The next morning,
Lucas got up to exercise as usual. Just as always, he saw the tribe's warriors swinging stone hammers there. Lucas found a corner and began his stretches. Once he had loosened up, he performed a set of Five Animal Frolics, completing his exercise for the day.
Lucas sat nearby and watched the children a little older than him train under the guidance of one of the tribe's Fifth Rank Warriors. The warrior said, "Morning is the best time to train. If you want to become a powerful warrior of the tribe, diligent daily training is essential!"
Then Lucas heard him say, "As everyone knows, the key to whether a warrior is powerful has never been how strong your arms and legs are. Your waist and abdomen connect your upper and lower body. They're the key to how much fighting strength you can bring to bear!"
Lucas nodded at this. His master in his previous life had taught him the same thing. Most martial techniques used the waist and abdomen as the center, with the upper and lower body forming the radii for defense and attack.
Of course, using a weapon merely extended the radius of attack. Even after battle aura became widespread in this world, the protagonist's village, which had no battle aura, still had the Qi Accumulation Stance to train the triangle of the waist and abdomen. Clearly, in any world, the waist and abdomen remained the most fundamental area for human cultivation methods and martial techniques.
That area was especially important to warriors who cultivated battle aura, because it was the location of the lower dantian, where warriors stored their battle aura and internal energy.
Mages cultivated the middle dantian, near the heart. Thus, their requirements for bodily strength were not high. They also meditated to strengthen their souls, which involved the upper dantian, so their souls were generally stronger than warriors'. This also made it easier for them to comprehend laws!
There was balance in all things. Although magic was closer to the laws, this also multiplied the threshold for cultivating it. If you had a low-grade elemental affinity and spiritual power only as strong as an ordinary person's, you could still cultivate battle aura. There was even a chance of reaching the Saint level. Though that chance was vanishingly small, it still existed in theory.
But the profession of mage shut you out entirely. Spiritual power was also essential for mages. By comparison, the threshold for battle aura was lower.
After watching them finish training, Lucas returned home. Once he had eaten breakfast, his father began teaching him some of the written characters passed down in the tribe.
When his father returned that afternoon, he brought Lucas the dagger he had asked for yesterday. He also told Lucas regretfully, "I went and checked. The bodies of the tribe's dead bulls didn't have the kind of crystals you wanted."
Lucas had obtained the dagger he wanted, so whether there were any Magic Beast Cores did not really matter. He had no way to use them right now anyway. He said to his father, "That's fine. I'll go get busy now."
